Think about it.
The XG-1 never had SLAM. It was very easy to get behind it when you were flying an X-Wing. What these did in the simulators was basically what Y-Wings did for the Rebellion: Ordnance attack, ion cannon assault support, missile backup. They were not legendary dog fighters by much... but they did pack a lot of weapons in a very flexible platform.
So while it's great to finally have the canon carrier I always suspected the XG-1 would be... that the dial is designed for SLAM use, it gets a SLAM, incredibly good combinations for missiles (Just read the OS-1 title), it feels to me like you can practically show up to a tournament with a Missile Boat Proxy and nobody would tell you it's a different ship based on the way it performs. The only thing that stands out is attack 2, but let's stay realistic- you won't be using primary attack on this ship unless you're forced to.
I'll probably be ordering one of Mel's Missile Boat models for X-Wing near the end of my lunch break, because while it's not the first combination I'll fly with my Assault Gunboats (That will be F/G Rho with some combination of sweeping cannons), inevitably I'll be pretending (easily) this is a missile boat, and destroy my enemies with a primary armament of concussion missiles.
What do you guys think?
