Edited by Boom OwlHaha, Saturation salvo is just so hilariously bad. Why the heck did they even print that card?
It's very conditional, as most missile's and torpedo's just hit. And then it's a small chance on some very little damage on ships in the vicinity. All at the cost of your very valuable EPT slot.
I really wonder why they added the needlessly complex condition that compares the agility of the opponent with the cost of your missile, the card would have been completely fine without it and at 0 point cost.

It's conditional, but ... there are ways to influence ordnance to miss, which can create circumstances like, "Should I do probably only 1 damage to my target ship, or should I deliberately miss and have a chance to damage each ship at Range 1?"
More tactical choices are almost always more interesting.

Saturation Salvo would only trigger once with cluster missiles, same as tactician, etc. So you have to miss both shots to trigger it.
I feel meh about this... a ship I didn’t really want has really fun options in my faction of choice... and FFG Wiffs on a few more opportunities to make things really interesting (and manages to kill swarms more).
I’m in for 1 but not seeing the glory everyone else is experiencing.

No, you see it
It has fun options! It goes ZOOM and PEW at the same time!!!
I mean, if you were expecting broken-mcgee and the second coming of jumpster cost-effective, then yeah there's nothing to see here
(Also swarms won't be any more dead because only jank lovers will ever touch Salvo)
Edited by ficklegreendiceMan, I really love the design of this ship and its upgrades. I am thinking about running (at least) two different lists, one with a TIE/D flanked by XG-1s for cannon fodder fun, and another list with a couple TIE Strikers for the multi-maneuver menagerie!

...
Rage + Linked Batteries on Keyan Farlander, then! Rolled blanks? Re-roll all three dice, and then you get to re-roll another die if you still have a blank! Plus now you've got a focus token to use for defense!
And you could still go with the the E2 title w/ Inspiring Recruits in order to remove all the stress during the attack!
(Thus proving I can make the "stupid combo" even stupider!
)
Oh, wait, I can make it even more stupid, but fun! Instead of Inspiring Recruits, take Finn! Now you can re-roll all four dice!

No, you can't because dice can only be rerolled once. How is it that people still don't understand basic tenets of this game?
So... do we have any prelim builds that people like?
Major Vynder gets seriously expensive fast...
Dunno how much I really care for Flechette stress boats. At 23 points I guess its okay...
These are looking fun though, just for the double movement. I'm slamming all day every day.
I like Vynder with VI ASLAM XG1 Flechette Linked.
I just don't like what he costs.
For under 30 points, he would have been great. For 32 he might just have been manageable. For 34 he's competing for list slots he just can't fulfil.
OK....I'm still really early in this thread, but I wanted to post some thoughts I had so far.
Gamma Squadron Vet (Bomber) with Saturation Salvo and Unguided Rockets is only 22 pts! Explosions everywhere!
The Firespray would've loved the Linked Battery.
Sunny Bounder w/ Heavy Scyk title and Linked Battery....18 pts. She gets to re-roll a 2 die main gun attack, but if she gets 2 hits, it turns into 3! Why? Because it's fun. Or....maybe she misses with both and uses a TL to re-roll 3 dice!
So now I actually can start to wait Kimogila! Not too excited about the Gunboat, but Kimogila is so freaking cool design!
Note, I'm Scum player..

Well, in part because there're a lot of rules, so a good deal of your learning comes from playing games with veterans and learning from them. If you haven't read the "re-roll only once" rule (or read it when the entire game was still new and you hadn't organized your thoughts yet) and the people teaching you the game either didn't know the rule or didn't tell you, then it's one of those things that could very easily be missed.

I was referring to these and harpoons but salvo will also hurt.
I have none of fanboy love of this ship. I see some fun to be had but I’m not even sure it’s going to shake the meta very hard.
Still waiting on that FAQ to do that

Does every ship need to shake the meta? Isn't being fun to fly enough?

Agreed.
Mostly, I find the title weird. What am I saturating if I'm supposed to miss? And the multiple splashes might miss, too?
Maybe it should have been Poly Unsaturated Salvo.
If it’s not shaking the meta, put in a ship that will, then go back to the design table with it till it can.
Fun to fly and shakes the meta aren’t mutually exclusive. Since this wasn’t a Scum ship, I know that’s hard to imagine, but the other factions would like new, exciting, AND quality ships too.
Also note: I don’t want to topple the meta, just want to be able to play in it.

eh, that's when you get power creep and not terribly well informed design decisions (howdy JM5k!)
it is much better and easier to FAQ the very few problem ships that are dominating the competitive meta in order to allow more ships to shine
ofc, given this line of logic, I'm not sure why FFG hasn't targeted TLTs yet. Even if the leaked FAQ is supposedly true (given the ASLAM errata seems to have come true), it's not doing much about TLT miranda and nym
Edited by ficklegreendiceEveryone's excited about the Missile boat combos, I'm thinking about what you can do with dual cannons. Either HLC/Autoblasters or the canonical (heh) Tractor Beams and Ion cannons. Wonder what those combos can do on the table.
Putting HLC/Autoblaster on a gunboat is a whopping 13 points, and neither cannon can take advantage of the title, I can't imagine that ends up being worth its cost. Ion/Tractor costs 5 to put on a gunboat, makes for a fairly versatile control piece, and the tractor can work even on a SLAM. It's not going to put out the damage of a missile boat but a 23 point (25 with advanced SLAM) PS 2 gunboat that can tractor or Ion a target doesn't sound too bad.

Or Jam, but yeah, definitely.

So, all you ask for is a perfect ship every time?

Which is exactly the only thing I can think of that will reliably "shake the meta."
The game is more than the tier 1 stuff.
The real health of the game is in the tier 2, tier 1.5 stuff.
