Agreed. None of those are really dominating the meta, so a nudge up would have been nice.

True. Walking of the board should usually not an option. Use 2 gunboats and a defender and you might as well just kill that tokenless agility 1 9HP ship the turn after you ioned him. ;-)

Two strong in this combination imho, but I am making a sadface about that as well and imo ions should be just two points or deal normal damage.
Speaking of normal damage. Ion Torpedoes actually DO normal damage. ;-)

Yeah but the issue with ion torps is they spend the TL to fire.
You now have a need for 2 actions to fire it again the following turn. One for a targetlock, one for reload.

however , ion MISSILES do not spend the targetlock. They just dont splash

not really sure if saturation salvo will ever be a thing.

The main issue is it eats the EPT and requires an effect you dont want to have happen in the first place.

2ship lists might become less common, but if they dont this will be even less valuable.

WHy spend your EPT making missing very slightly less terrible, when you can spend it making missing less likely in the first place.

What's more preferable, hitting with your four point missile, or missing and doing half a damage to each ship at range 1?

The bigger issue for ion missiles is that they don't do significant damage. Meanwhile the Torpedos do, if only Ion cannons would be two points to fire in between reloads ^_^
Now Lt. Kusari might fit into something interesting with an Ion Cannon.

You have to have something in your list to get TL + focus as well if you want that to actually do well. I'd probably just run cluster missiles for rnage 1 shots. Maybe have jonus in there for rerolls?

Just run PtL on the gunboat and you can provide your own TL/Focus. Then the trick is just getting an enemy in arc at r1 as a PS 4, 5, or 7 pilot.

The only way that slam into APT would work is if you had LRS and already telegraphed your attack with it.

APT's w/o focus AND targetlock is a massively wasted attack, even with reloads. APTs practically dont miss when you have a focus, but if you do they miss more than statistically should (behold the psyche of rolling more than 3 dice!)

The moment you bank on unmodded attacks to do anything you are going to blank out or roll focuses. Every. Dang. Time.

Take an EPT guy and put Expertise on there HOLY CRAP thats an expensive ship thats not that tough to kill!

Advanced Slam for focus and something with a targeting synchroniser?

Stupid combo idea: Keyan Farlander with Linked Battery and Predator. If he's not stressed, take a focus action. Either way, re-roll two dice, then get to change eyeballs to hits! For further fun, used Advanced Sensors to enable a barrel-roll followed by a k-turn, then still get dice modifications!

Rage + Inspiring Recruit would be just 3 Points and basically doing something very similar for less.

Can't VI and PtL, fleet officer could work, maybe, if you keep the other ship at r1-2 of your SLAM capable gunboats, and if the other ship isn't wiped out, and if the APT trick is worth making half or more your list be built around it haha.
