Tourney fleet HELP!

The yt1300 gives you the opposite- a slow but high health escort squadron with counter 1.

( i much prefer yt1300's over Xwings 9/10 percent of the time, as they have escort and counter)

I opted to swap out Biggs for Keyan Farlander, which with Nym and another bomber squadron, can kick out a LOT of damage. Any ship that tries to jump into that squadron ball is in for it.

Though If I find my escort squadrons die too fast, I will try to find room for a YT1300 in there.

I wonder if I should replace the AFB with a Pelta?

Pros:

-With Phoenix Home, I am able to take two officers(Derlin/Lando and Toryn)

-It will most likely cost less

-It can boost fighters' mobility with AFFM and FCT

Cons:

-It is less tanky

-It cannot take ECM/RBD

-It cannot go speed 3

-The fighters are less protected due to no Gallant Haven

Please tell me, WHAT IS BETTER?!?!?!?

Neither: both have their pros and cons.

Subjectively: i love peltas

Objectively: AFMK2 may be the better ship in this scenario

Why would the AFB be better?

With the 'recent' emergance of large ship fleet builds due to flotillas blah blah blah, a higher health ship that can go speed 3 might be better.

Dont think im knocking peltas, i love them as a ship and their almost an autoinclude in my fleets. However being a tournament fleet the AFMK2 is slightly more flexible than a pelta

Gtg now so i wont continue.

So, the tourney is on Saturday, and I can't decide on yellow objective!

I've decided my best choices are Fighter Ambush, Jamming Barrier, Planetary Ion Cannon, or Capture the VIP.

Reasons:

Fighter Ambush-Pretty obvious, but I don't like losing deployments, but I also don't have a brawler.

Jamming Barrier-keeps the all ship lists from doing much damage, more at their expense than my own. Also have a VCX!

Planetary Ion Cannon-Could use any extra firepower. Also have a VCX!

Capture the VIP- I can deploy the station right next to comms net flotilla, the flotilla will just pick it up and run away. Again, also have a VCX.

Please HELP!

So, I am taking the fleet to the tournament tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Thanks!

So, here is the batrep:

Round 1: Vs Andy, running Sloane, AvengerBT, Squall with RS and FC, plus Suppressor and Maarek, 3 defenders, Jendon, and a few others. We played Fighter Ambush, and I was second player. He dives right in on turn 1 and alphas my fighters(half of them weren't in Gallant Haven range)He was able to eat one or two squadrons. Later his ISD came in and one-shotted GH. Yavaris responds and sends in Nym, Ten numb, and keyan, and kills it outright. My flotillas ram his to death, I finish off all his squadrons and chase the Quasar, but wasn't able to kill it. 8-3 my way. 219 MoV(1 point away from a 9-2!)

Round 2: Vs , running Madine, Liberty battle cruiser, Assault frigate with RLBs loaded with Ten Numb, Norra, and something else. Also a Slicer Flotilla with Hera, Wedge, Dutch. I was first player, and we played Opening Salvo. He deploys his Lib off the the right, and everything else in the middle. I deploy everything left-middle, and demolish the AFB and his flotilla. His Lib swings around and kills a flotilla, half my fighters are destroyed, half of his are destroyed.6-5, 204-209 his way. (Again, super frustrating:angry:!)

But, I was glad that I lost, because whoever won that round would have to face the Famous Nathan Coda.

Round 3: Vs Tom, running almost the same list as Andy(First round opponent) but no BT, and the fighters were an interceptor with Howlrunner and Dengar swarm. I don't even want to talk about this one. He threw all his interceptors with his quasar at the half of my fighters that weren't with Gallant Haven, and Ten Numb was one of them. Ten Numb and Keyan go down just like that. 5 Interceptor strikes. He was able to demolish my whole force besides the 2 Comms Net flotillas, and I was only able to destroy half his squadron force. In the end, it was just barely a 1-10 his favor, 308 MoV.

I think I got 5-6th place.

I think I might add a Jamming Field in there somewhere, and switch to Rieekan to make sure the squadrons don't die like that again.

In the end, Nathan Coda got 1st place with 30 tournament points(10-1s everywhere!) Tom got 2nd, Andy got 3rd, Ben Lurie(with a Sato Hammerhead fleet) took 4th. It was a great time, and they had some of the best prizes. 1st place got a $50 gift certificate, a trophy, a choice of 1 Alt art commander card, and numerous other things. 2nd place got $25 and other stuff, and everybody got Howlrunner alt arts, a distance 1 ruler that doubled as a ship/squadron replacement tool, and a GR75 Alt art. It was a blast!

This is about as depressing as I assume the rest of this competitive season is going to be- Sloane everywhere!

Was the winner running Sloane too? An off meta Sloane counter? Something totally awesome no one saw coming? 30 tournament points is a pretty rare sight nowadays, so would be interesting to know.

Also, given those matchups I wouldn't feel too terrible. You ran into the same issue I have when running GH- it's such a small bubble I can't fit everything in it, and everything not in it just dies.

Yep, here around it's the same... BTAvenger and/or Sloane.

If Sloane is your meta (I feel bad for you, son...), Gallant Haven + JF is about the hardest squadron counter you're going to find... but it's not easy to keep those ships lined up and all the squadrons inside the bubble. Easier is to keep a couple of X-wings in there to eat all the shots, and everything else behind them. The Sloane turbo-interceptor alpha strike hurts like ****, but it will shatter upon the bulwark of your GH/JF combo if you play your hand close and fly carefully.

Your squadrons be like...

I got 99 problems but an alpha strike ain't one.

Winner was Rieekan Aces. Yavaris, Admo, and three flotillas.

It was Nathan, who was the runner up at Worlds this past year if people remember that.

Nope, no one remembers number 2.

Just kidding, yeah I totally remember the guy! Congrats to him, Rieekan aces is still a tough tough fleet to beat.

So maybe just drop the assault frigate all together? I could add an admo easily enough, though I wouldn't have an extra officer space for Adar Tallon.

If I drop the assault frigate, I could change the escort loadout from Wedge+Luke to Biggs+YT1300+ x-wing, downgrading Keyan to a regular B-wing.

Depends. From your bat rep it sounds like the problem you ran into against both Sloane lists was not that Gallant Haven doesn't work mechanically, but that your squadrons weren't in range to benefit from it in the first place. So, not a build issue, but an execution issue. If you can work on your execution so you're not leaving squadrons out of range of their support, Gallant Haven is fantastic. However, that's a tall order: it takes some serious practice to learn how to fly GH well. I've seen way more people choke with it than do well with it, even when it was part of the dominant build for a few months there.

If you're not interested in spending the time to develop the tactical skill to execute with GH (I wouldn't blame you), but you do know how to fly the MC30 well, Admonition would make a good complement to the list instead. Also, Jamming Fields is a pretty good "GH-lite", with a bigger range for a less powerful effect, so you might consider swapping that in for one of your Comms Nets if you drop the AF2.

Flight commander can be a godsend for Gallant Haven. Fly right up to the squad ball, THEN activate your squads and position them right where you need them

I will definitely try it out with Admonition, will definitely add firepower to the fleet, but I will still practice Gallant Haven. Currently, I dropped Comms net from Ahsoka's ship to add a Jamming Field. It works quite well, actually. Squadrons take about 1-2 damage at a time.

I did fly GH with flight commander before, but I needed 5 officer spaces, Adar, Toryn, Leia, Ahsoka, and flight commander on Yavaris.

Maybe drop Leia?

Well, there is a lunatic in my meta that is always running slicers with some heavy hitter like a liberty or MC30, and every tournament that I've attended that he was at, I was matched up with him.

Even then, Leia really helped me out, switching my command dials when an alpha strike came when it was the least expected.

Refined the list and got this

Hyperspace Assault, Most Wanted, Superior Positions

MC30c Torp: Rieekan, Lando, Admo, External Racks, Ordnance experts, H9s

Neb-B Escort: Yavaris, Flight Commander, Fighter Coordination Team

GR75 Med: Bright Hope, Toryn, BCC

GR75 Med: Ahsoka

GR75 Med: Leia(officer), Comms Net

Wedge, Jan, Ten Numb, Dagger, Dutch, Norra, Green squadron, Scurrg H6

399 points total

I'm also going back and forth with a list where I replace the MC30c with this:

Pelta command

-Phoenix Home

-Rieekan

-Derlin

-Adar Tallon

-Boosted Comms

-AFFM!

-Fighter Coordination Team

Also swaps out hyperspace assault for Capture the VIP.

Which do you think is better?
