List of “objectively” bad experiences.

By TylerTT, in X-Wing

I see many complaints but so far I have only seen one objectively bad thing in the game at the moment and that is.

Captain Nym — Scurrg H-6 Bomber

Veteran Instincts

Advanced Sensors

"Genius”

Engine Upgrade

Havoc

This is much like the old cloak rules where it takes the guess work out of maneuvering and bomb placement.

Other than that one specific build what do you think should be on the list of “objectively” bad.

Try to google the difference of "objectiv" and subjectiv"

try sarcastic quotation marks

The list of truly objective bad experiences is zero. It's a terrible metric to try and apply because you'll have so many different opinions, which of course proves that it's subjective.

I think TLT spam is a worse 'experience' than Nym, even if it's demonstrably less likely to win you high level games.

Rac/Kylo is probably very high on the list as well. Bulletproof Soontir. Adv SLAM Cluster Mines. The bomb rules in general...

Its probably a good idea to be aware of which mechanics can be frustrating or discouraging if used against new/oblivious players.

1. Standard Nym

2. 4x TLT

3. RAC/Kylo

4. Miranda Regen & Slam Bombs

5. Kanan/Biggs

6. Trip Jumps or Paratanni

7. Regen Corran or Poetensity

8. Ninja Turtle Soontir & Whisper

9. FSR2

10. Early Game Alpha Strikes

11. "High" HP Alpha Turrets (Rey/Dengar)

12. Biggs/Low protecting anything good

Again, 100% qualify this list with the assumption that its being used against someone who is seeing them for the first time and has not brought a reasonable list that can even slightly balance out the matchup. The stuff above is fine, just need to be good about "explaining" to new players what they can do to beat them if they want to know.

Outside of that specific situation everything is fine. A # of the things above are fun and interesting in the right context.

Opponents throwing dice at me (happened at nova this year).

Pre-nerf Whisper? That wasn't objectively horrible?

A player better than me. That is total NPE for me.

Or a worse player with really hot dice.

I wasn't around for that so can't really judge.

Just swallow them. They won't do it again.

"Objective" may be a bit strong, but I did recently have a game which didn't seem too enjoyable for either side. I was flying a TIE Defender, TIE Aggressor, and TIE Adv. Prototype against my opponent's YT-1300 and Auzituck. It started out ok, with me focusing on his Auzituck and managing to take it down while he stripped the shields from my ships (and got two damage on the Aggressor), but then the Dice got involved. After his Auzituck went down, the game lasted several more rounds, and he simply could not seem to get hits off on me, while my ships seemed unable to miss. We had at least two turns in a row where every single one of his rolls was all blanks, and every single one of my rolls was Hit/Crit or Evade, as the case may be. He managed to kill the Prototype, but lost the game without doing any more significant damage to my ships.

I felt really bad because I hadn't won through superior flying or a better list, but just because the Dice decided to simply hand me the game. (I mean, some randomness is to be expected, but outliers like this can be very frustrating.)

After my very first worlds game was over, my opponent wanted to roll my dice my to see why they seemed to be on fire for me throughout the game. It might have been because I had focus and TL on all my ships the entire game, idk, just a guess (praise be FCS)

and then, suddenly, you threw your dice to @FlyingAnchors

My brother couldn't land a hit on my Rexlar Brath, so he decided to roll 1 red dice 14 times.

He got all blanks.

Pre-Nerf Whisper was nearly an auto-lose for you if you did not bring something to hard counter it. At the time that only meant out PS bidding it and usually something with a turret. So PS 11 Han or PS 10 Rac when the Decimator dropped. If you didn't out PS Whisper, a competent opponent could just have his way with your squad. Complete knowledge of the board state and the ability to move out of arcs at will and even when caught in an arc, that 4 agility + usually a focus and evade made it nearly impossible to damage. The Meta was basically bring Whisper or a Fat Turret to counter Whisper. Very little else was competitive. Heck, a Echo + Whisper build at only 86 points won several events.

Round 5 I'm flying ptl Poe/ Rey going up against a guy whose whose running meta Rey (kanan) and a bombless miranda with goldenrod.

he makes some obscure comment about salt mines (were both 1-3 at this point).

Round progresses, my Rey on one hull, my Poe on two, I've killed his Miranda. Poe gets a beautiful 2 hits and a crit thru, his Rey is now down to one hull(it wasn't a direct damage) instead of returning fire with Rey he chucks his green dice across the table at me and concedes.

It obviously didn't hurt physically but the fact a grown man would throw his dice like a 3 year old having a temper tantrum over a game that wasn't even over yet was.... slightly disturbing.

^ Further to this, I had a guy start super cocky and get progressively more salty, then ragequit in a round 5 game (must be something about that round...). He had a Dengar/Boba list vs my Maarek/Vess/Palpshuttle and started getting really angry that I was opting not to shoot when I was range 1 in arc of Dengar. When I took out Boba thanks to Maarek pushing three crits through on a shieldless Boba, he started throwing his dial for Dengar down after setting it, sometimes skidding across the mat to me, and moaning about Palp (had nothing to do with the attack), Juke (which I wasn't using), and /x7 (which hadn't triggered for two turns). In the end he called it with Dengar on a couple of hull, and all my ships still up - albeit hurting - and started aggressively throwing his stuff into a box, then ticked the "drop" section on the score sheet and threw the pen across the table.

People are fun.

Good list, only missing generic Jumpasters on there

I’m lucky to not have faced that kind of poor sportsmanship. I have had people rage quit on Vassal, but only very rarely.

I hope the dice thrower has found a more relaxing hobby.

Sometimes people take this game of pushing around little plastic ships WAY too serious. I get that there's high-end competition, but at the end of the day it's still supposed to be fun, right?
