Imperial Long-Range Fire

By Onidsen, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

This is an iteration of an earlier 2 Vic-2/2 Gozanti/+1 other small ship list I've been working through. Sometimes the 5th ship was an Arquitens, sometimes a Raider. I eventually just made the 3rd small ship another Gozanti and sprung for better fighter coverage.

When the Cymoon ISD was revealed, I realized that it would be a perfect supplement to a long range Vic-2 with Disposable Capacitors. With Motti, it's a hefty tank to try and blow through, and Shields to Maximum + Comm Net Gozantis extends that life even further. Between Motti and StM, I can be much more aggressive than normal with the Gozantis, slipping them in to foul up enemy maneuvers and get double arc shots and so on.

Some unorthodox choices here - I didn't take QBTs on the Vic. Normally I view that as an auto-include, but with the ISD capable of moving at speed 3, I'd like to have the option for the Vic to try and keep up instead of being locked into a pattern of maneuvering. And Warlord + Jonus is a roughly equivalent damage boost.

The squadron complement is unabashedly 'borrowed' from @Snipafist's blog and included with only slight modifications, and I think it will be sufficient coverage to occupy large squadron forces, brush aside small screens, and damage ships once the squadron battle is over.

Between CF tokens from the Gozantis and Jonus' dice fixing, I think that I've got decent insurance against fickle red dice rolls too, so Leading Shots was cut for the points.

The list prefers second over first player, I think. It could struggle against an objective-focused 2nd player strategic list, but I'm not sure.

I'd really appreciate any feedback y'all have to offer.

Fleet created with Armada Warlords

Think I'd prefer leading shots and QBTs on the VSD rather than Warlord.

I agree with that. Even at speed 2, you'll find the QBTs trigger more than you'd think. Alternatively, Minister Tua+ECMs can go a long way towards keeping your VSD-II ticking longer than it would otherwise.

If it's possible to get Wulff Yularen on the Cymoon, I'd prioritize that as well. He can keep the repair token going forever for Shields to Maximum, which should save you a lot of logistics hassle in getting that going consistently.

I don't have any experience with the Cymoon just yet so I don't really have much to say about it otherwise. I'd personally think that the lack of a reroll would preference upgrades like QBTs or Spinals to help provide more dice to just solve your fickle red dice problems through just rolling more dice, but I don't have the play experience to back up that gut feeling.

In terms of objectives, I'm not sure you'll get a lot of mileage out of the points-scoring part of Superior Positions (maybe once or twice from your squadrons?). I might consider replacing it with Solar Corona, which has the same deployment penalty but an in-game effect you'd likely benefit more from overall, or perhaps a points-scoring objective like Intel Sweep, which your Gozantis can do without too much trouble usually.

Oh, and I should tag @geek19 as a co-author of the blog. Thanks for reading!

Fair enough. I prefer Warlord/Jonus with QTCs anyways, and there's not room in this list for it. Tua/ECMs is very good, certainly. QBT on its own is cheaper and adds the same equivalent damage.

Leading shots is a good choice. I had it on an earlier version, and I cut it for warlord. I was thinking that I might as well, since I already had jonus, and the Gozantis were a consistent source of CF tokens. But LS may well be more consistent, and that's important. I'm just not sure that I get enough value out of it with only 3 red dice. If I dropped it, it would probably be for DTTs on the ISD.

With the Cymoon, I'm counting on comms net to handle token issues. My general plan is this: t1, save nav tokens on both heavy ships, and pass engineering tokens. T2, pass CF or squadron tokens, depending on the need. Thereafter, alternate between CF tokens and engineering tokens as required.

I'm not sure if I like the fleet better with a Cymoon instead of a second Vic, honestly.
