The Raider can hold Ties!

By jauntyharrison, in X-Wing

I just noticed this while watching some gameplay of the upcoming Single Player campaign from Battlefront II. Apparently the Raider corvette has hanger space for a couple of ties! Or, at the very least, Inferno Squad's Corvus has been modified to do so. Neat Eh? I've always had trouble visualizing the breadth that the raider is supposed to have, since it's miniature isn't truescale compared to the other minis in X-wing. It's never seemed like a ship that had much headroom, but I guess it's bigger than I've been giving it credit to be.

CorvusHanger.jpg

What part of the ship is this? I had known that it could hold at least one TIE advanced, but I didn't know where. I'm really pleased this ship made it into Battlefront!

By the looks of it, its the divet in the hull just to the fore of the Interceptor-esque panels on the side.

TIE docking upgrade card needed ASAP!

Nvm, I'll do it myself. Strange Eons is a beautiful thing. I plan to make some Corvus cards for my Imperial TIE Fighter testing facility Epic scenario anyway.

Given that it's not clamp-style docking like on the Gozanti, there's no real reason it has to be limited to TIEs. It's a hangar, so any ship small enough to fit in the door would be able to use it.

While this is true, does the Empire have any small ships besides TIEs that don't have hyperdrives?

Interceptors, Bombers, possibly Punishers/Interdictors. At least for released ships I can think of. There are a number of obscure TIE Fighter variants that didn't have Hyperdrives as well.

Apparently this shot from an earlier trailer is seen from the interior of the same hanger. You can see a pair of x wings being expelled. I don't care to speculate how X-wings got in there in the first place.

Well you are a black ops team. They are likely liberated from the rebel terrorist scum :P

No. But just because a ship has a hyperdrive doesn't mean you want to spend all your time in it. X-Wings have hyperdrives, but they still park them in larger ships.

I intended "TIEs" as an umbrella term to include all TIE variants.

The Rebellion has few bases so using carriers to transport hyperdrive-equipped fighters makes sense. The Empire has bases everywhere. They really have no need to transport hyperdrive-equipped small ships, with the exception of shuttles used for ferrying purposes.

Or fly them from ice planets to swamp planets to gas giants on one tank of gas, and submerging it fit at least a week.

Yup! I posted about this very very tasty tidbit about the Raider back in August on our beloved Gunboat Thread:

Though the Vigil has hangar compartments and those might be big enough to drop Gunboats Gozanti style. Quick, someone tell FFG that we want a vigil corvette as third imperial epic. ^-^..."

Whoa - are you sure the Raider has no Hangar?

The Battlefront II Reveal trailer showed some X-Wings falling out of a hangar bay at 1:24 - then it skips to an outside shot showing a Raider at the lower left hand corner immediately after that!

Does that mean that I'm guessing Inferno Squad were using X-Wings covertly???

...hoping against hope that I'm right... Hehehhe.

==================

At the time, I was wondering if Inferno Squad would consider using the Gunboat as their main Starfighter. It's quite an independent little (BIG) ship!

Ahh...one can only dream...

Well yeah, out of necessity. It's not like he's going to get them to send a Nebulon-B to some swamp planet because of a hallucination he had.

That's ridiculous. You make it sound like the Empire has a base in every star system, and that simply isn't the case.

And I still stand by saying the raider has no hangar :P

At least not the versions FFG has produced. The place they use in battlefront to give it an hangar makes ... well at least a little sense, but it looks shoehorned onto the design of the ship to get some hangar space for the game, just because they want to use the ship and a hangar. Nothing uncommon for video games, especially when you have the the same love for detail as EA does. ;-)

Logically, it has a hanger. Since the ship has no landing gear, it is safe to assume that it cannot make landfall, therefore all personal and munitions must be transported to the Raider whilst it is in space or atmo and knowing the Empire, this will be via various shuttles.

As the Lambda class doesn't have a way to dock with a ship like the Raider (Ghost and Corvette for example), you have to assume it must have a landing pad/zone/hanger bay to allow this to happen.

Let's not forget, Star Wars doesn't have teleporters, so they must use more conventional means.

It actually has landing gear. However, we know it can hold a TIE advanced inside itself as well. I'm still not seeing where the hangar would be though. 1874ecee8f7fba4289d3126afd7628f9.jpg

where the **** did that photo come from? Lol.

I reckon, since FFG made it, they can answer if it actually has a hanger or not!

X-Wings in an Imperial corvette? Too bad the stripe is red instead of gray, or I might think that Wraith Squadron had captured the thing and was using it for undercover work!

Two things:

1. Traveling through hyperspace can still take a while, and while it's possible to do it in a fighter, it won't be very comfortable for long trips.

2. Larger craft can sometimes have faster hyperdrives, so if speed is a priority, the fighter could sit on board a capital ship to make the trip faster.

New Raider expansion confirmed! Cheaper than the old one, with TIE Punisher fixes and Inferno Squadron stuff to make Imps competitive. Please.

I'm sure there is a little hanger that shuttles and such can dock. I mean, how else do the commandos get to the ground? There is no beaming around like whats-that-show.

Yes, it can land. And it has a "cargo door". Not sure where the hangar is, tough.

EDIT: just saw the video (0:49). The hangar is (opened) in the right side of the ship.

Hey, I get really good light-years per gallon of my Tibanna gas!
