Regional dates!

By Herowannabe, in Star Wars: Armada

My store is saying they think this is the final list.

If true, I don't get it - FFG doesn't have to do that much work to produce the kits, right? We got 3 store championships locally with attendance of 12-16, so not huge but not bad. Even if you only get a dozen or so players for a regional that is something. Last year, I attended my local regional and drove 6 hours to go to another one. Now the closest is 8 hours away and I definitely can't make it to 2 of them.

Pastimes isn't. Their Armada scene has dried up. They do get a good number of participants for Saturday tournaments and whatnot but their local scene on Tuesdays has largely disappeared. They didn't even apply for the event this year due to that.

The place where I play (Fair Game) has a thriving Armada community but it can't hold enough participants for a full-fledged Regional.

I've spoken with their coordinator (Ron, who is an awesome guy) and next time this rolls around we can hopefully combine our forces to get something going. For these Regionals, though, it seems like Chicagoland is SOL.

I do hope that Board Game Barrister gets something going though. I'd be happy to go back again.

The whole situation is weird.

I doubt size works into it.

Myth games got the Calgary regional for Armada...

So I'm happy for them.

But it destroys me.

Ok, it is genuinely good to see Game Kastle represented. While their sister locations are the primary destinations for regular Armada in the south bay, GKMV is their premier gaming event location and could actually hold double that number of active tables.

But that date. Yeesh. Someone got the short straw there.

Nothing local to vegas, closest is AZ and southern cal.. and they are one weekend apart. Boolsheet.

And neither on a weekend I have off either. boooooo

For once, a Regional is basically in my backyard (Streetsboro, OH). I was literally about to jump with joy, with my mind not registering what date was listed. Me: "Sweatheart, do we have anything going on November 25th?" My wife: "That is Thanksgiving Weekend!"

My wife felt " a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. ... something terrible has happened. "

How do I tell multiple sets of relatives flying in from out of town, some who I haven't seen in nearly two years, that I will not be seeing them that day, since I HAVE to go push around plastic spaceships around for ~8 hours? Oh that is right, we got family pictures that day. Who has two thumbs and will not be smiling in that photo? THIS GUY!

Oh well. Looks like I am hopefully road tripping to another Regional.

All of these stores with thanksgiving weekend dates should claim an unfortunate emergency plumbing issue has forced them to reschedule to another date.

I can't imagine many of them volunteered for a day when many players and even their own staff would be on vacation.

The application required 3 dates, all Saturdays. I'm sure some people did it without thinking about it... I mean, some stores in mall or near-mall locations remain open as required, for example... Back in my GW Days, the only days off you got were Christmas and Easter Sunday.

Two Texas dates, one month apart, which is quite convenient. I don't think I'll be travelling outside of Texas like I did last year, though. Looking forward to this.

Glad someone is :D

I’ll say this if there is an issue with both flights and a hotel I may be able to offer a room up in Marietta. We have had an event that has made 4 rounds and a cut over the last few years we were 4 shy of a 4th round and cut for the store championship

Good News is we get one in Massachusetts on Feb 3rd, hopefully no snow that day its an hour drive. The next closest is in NJ so if I can't make this one I am SOL.

Capacity of 40 at Battlegrounds is pretty ambitious though. I doubt they would ever get that many but if they did it would be fairly tight I think. Maybe not if they moved some stuff around.

time to rally the troops for a road trip. closest is a 4 hour drive to san jose.

It seems Vancouver BC will not be hosting a Regionals for Armada. The folks who ran it last year just informed me they only got X-Wing and Destiny....so unless a different organizer is doing Armada (and I haven't heard of anyone stepping up?) I'm afraid we will be headed to Calgary or the other Vancouver. :(

Bah! :(

Well, I was toying with the idea of making the trek out to Hothgary too, when @Drasnighta was going to be running it, but if he's not even going to be able to show up... meh.

If you're going to Vancouver, WA, make sure you get pre-registered--they only have 24 slots. Pre-register by sending a paypal for $16 to info(a)diceagegames.com with a note that it's for the Armada Regionals. Alternatively, I hear @shmitty is always open to bald-faced bribery.

Really sad Pastimes doesn't have one this year. They did an amazing job last year. No Chicago or Milwaukee! So sad.

Which is why we will be out drinking after the tournament.

Look for me at the bottom tables of the Martinsburg one

It’ll be Feb3 in Hothgary, at Myth Games.

I have no control, say, or input... But Myth is not a large store. I expect there to only be 16-20 places, and I had 20 for a store champs which had no-one fromEdmonton attend... so I dare say places will disappear quickly.

Because it is in the new year, I have no ability to know if Ibeven have a roof then.

Yeah, sorry dude. :( Crappy situation all around.

I'm sure there is a reason, but why does FFG limit the regionals? There was a store in my city that ran great regionals, I know they applied for it, but they didn't get it this year. What is the deciding factor?

Yeah that's what bothers me about the whole thing. Everything else aside, as far as I can tell, sentry box would be able to accommodate far more players than myth. Given the popularity of Armada these days within the region, I'm not sure what the thinking was here.

Do we have an Idea of what the prizes will be yet?
