[Ruling Advice] Know the World Claims?

By AradonTemplar, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

The Phoenix spell 'Know the World' lets you switch a ring from your claimed pool with one from the unclaimed pool. When you switch, do you 'claim' that ring for the purposes of triggering abilities like Keeper Initiate's, or does it need to specifically say 'claim that ring' like Display of Power does?

Switching a ring is different then Claiming a ring. You Claim a ring in 3.2.7. "The player who won the conflict claims the ring and adds it to his or her claimed pool."

Claiming and adding it to your pool, or switching it with a ring already in your pool are separate.

Nice try tho ^_^,b

Thanks, I'm still figuring out the ins and outs of terminology. It seemed pretty good :D

Keep in mind, you DO get to take any fate sitting on the ring you switch for, so that can be a nice bonus. And if you have Shiba Tsukune in play, you can send one of your claimed rings back to the unclaimed pool right before the end of the conflict phase, so you can use her ability to trigger that ring one more time before the round is over. Like a lot of the Phoenix cards, it's okay by itself, but gets so much better when you can set up combos/synergy with your other cards.

Yeah, there are shenanigans to be had. It's been on the cutting block for my Phoenix deck for a while, but it's usually worth running just for the ability to take the earth ring and turn on your Solemn Scholar on the fly. Even if you really need to go for the fire or void ring with your big attack, you can still activate him later.

That would be fun. I really need to get more cores, because in the single core games I've played, I haven't had Solemn Scholar show up for me even once!

Even just 2 cores is a massive upgrade from 1. You can hold off on 3 cores if you need, just getting 2 will dramatically improve your ability to play.

Even three cores is not enough for me to have seen Tsukune yet. One day, I'll know the feeling of playing a clan champion. Until then, Toturi and Shoju will continue beating my face in.

Oh I run 3 of our champion. Most games are about 4 turns in which she is out every turn.

Had the opportunity to play Tsukune today. Her ability was even better than I hoped. It's just, free value lying around. And getting to put back a ring you already took with Know the World to get it *again* is just delicious.
