For Fun: Design The Ship You Never Want To See

By GILLIES291, in X-Wing

So some ships we love (gunboat for many, Interceptors for others, Ghost for me) and some we hate because they are overpowered (Denger for many, Nym for others, Jumpmasters for me). But once in awhile a ship comes out and you are like:

"What the heck? A wooden gunship? This thing is so ugly, why? And all of the unique pilots sound like noises someone makes when they are talking chewing while. I don't care that it's strong, why does this exist?" Hahaha.

(Disclosure I'm a rebel player but a repurposed Clone Gunship or alternatively using the statline/ firing arcs would have made a way better u wing)

Sorry back on topic, the challenge is to design a ship, not yet in the game, or if you aren't feeling super creative then an Aces pack for existing ships with a new pilot that you absolutely do not want to see for any reason. And then we will appreciate what we have.

Here is mine (hopefully atmospheric craft do not become a thing):

Ewok Hang Glider

Hull 1

Shields 0

Agility 1

Attack 1

Actions: Focus, Barrel Roll

Wicket: When completeing your maneuver, you may attack each enemy ship your maneuver template passes over.

Cost 5

This, or anything like this would end the game for me hahaha. So come on show me your worst

Sabine's TIE Defender Expansion Pack

•Sabine Wren
TIE Defender
PS 5
Immediately before you reveal your maneuver, you may perform a free boost or barrel roll action.

•Ezra Bridger
TIE Defender
PS 4
When defending, if you are stressed, you may change up to 2 of your Eye results into Evade results.

•"Chopper"
TIE Defender
PS 4
At the start of the combat phase, each enemy ship your are touching receives 1 stress token.

•Fenn Rau
TIE Defender
PS 9
When an enemy ship inside your firing arc at Range 1-3 becomes the active ship during the Combat Phase, if you are not stressed you may receive one stress token. If you do, that ship cannot spend tokens to modify its dice when attacking this round.

•Sabine's Stolen Defender
Title, Rebel only, TIE Defender only
Your upgrade bar gains the Crew and Illicit icons.
You may equip one additional title upgrade.
Cost: 1

•"Duchess"
Cannon, Rebel only, Dual card
Attack: 5, Range: 1
Attack: Attack one Imperial ship, or one with Imperial-only crew. If this attack hits, all Imperial ships or ships with Imperial-only crew within range 1 of the defender suffer the same amount of damage and critical damage that the defender suffered as result of this attack.

•"Duchess"
Cannon, Imperial only, Dual card
Attack: 5, Range: 1
Attack: Attack one Scum ship, or one with Scum-only crew. If this attack hits, all Scum ships or ships with Scum-only crew within range 1 of the defender suffer the same amount of damage and critical damage that the defender suffered as result of this attack.

Mandalorian Warrior
Crew, Scum or Imperial only
When attacking, the defender cannot cancel damage or critical damage with shield tokens.

Overcharged communication link
Illicit
Receive a face up damage card to select a ship you have locked and discard your lock on that ship. That ship is destroyed.

•Bendu
Crew
At the end of the planification phase, roll a defense die. On a eye result, assign 2 focus tokens to your ship.
At the end of the combat phase, if any attack was performed during that phase, select a random ship in play and roll an attack die. On a crit result, that ship is destroyed. Then discard this card.

Anything gungan

Native PS10 Dash.

Sabine's Raider?

A ship that is better in every way than previous release, thus making it totally worthless. Examples include the Scurrg being better in every way than the B-wing, Kiraxz trumping the X-wing (especially with Vaksai) and TIE bombers being trumped by K-wings.

I was gonna go with the Suncrusher but that’s been done.

So here is the Hornet class Interceptor ? latest?cb=20080930175240

att 2

agi 3

hull 2

shield 2

focus, Evade

Illicit

Turbo charged heavy laser cannons (illicit, hornet only)

att 4

range 1-3

attack one enemy ship

you may not perform primary weapon attacks.

after attack roll one attack die. On a critical result discard this card.

I give you one of the ugliest sort-of-canon-ships going:

The H-wing.

H-Wing.JPG

It looks like a Y-wing inappropriately fondling an A-wing from behind, and it makes no tactical sense whatsoever; it doesn't have the endurance for really long patrols, you don't need improved endurance for short patrols (because rebel small fighters have decent life support and hyperdive), and whilst it has a turreted laser cannon it looses so much manouvrability that its actual punch is no better than a B-wing which also has a big cannon and the ability to turn and point it at things....

Quote

The H-Wing was designed to survive extended combat engagements and multiple hits by using a new heavily reinforced armored hull, with the added protection provided by strong, high-energy shields.

I'd say hull 6, because it's a 3-crew ship, so something similar to an ARC-170

Shields were better than a y-wing so I'm going to nominally give it B-wing shields, 5

Quote

The fighter's primary long-range weapon was its medium laser cannon which was mounted in a fully rotating dorsal turret.

A single medium laser cannon is a bit of a joke. Given the argument about the HWK having 1 dice, I'm going to give it 2 dice.

Quote

As with the Y-Wing, the H-Wing carried two Arakyd Industries proton torpedo launchers. In contrast to the Y-Wing, however, the H-Wing boasted a magazine of eight torpedoes (twice that of the earlier Y-Wing's). Other than that, the magazines were identical to that of the Y-Wing, making heavy ordnance standard for the two craft. This ordnance was benefited by an elaborately complex, improved fire control system which was quite necessary for the craft to excel in its primary role as a strike fighter/bomber.

As well as these primary weapons, the fighter also had two light ion cannons which were fire linked for greater effect and were mounted in the starboard nose of the fighters twin-nose hull.

It had ion cannons (so a cannon slot) and torpedoes with twice the capacity of a y-wing (I'm going to say 3 torpedo slots rather than 4for the sake of argument, because if one of them is extra munitions that works out right)

Quote

However, weapons capability and hull integrity did both come at a great cost; both maneuverability and sublight speed had been sacrificed for increased battle worthiness, creating a distinct disadvantage in the H-Wing that has an extremely small chance of outrunning a numerically superior enemy or of disengaging prior to retreating.

The H-wing was supposed to be slower than a B-wing and less manouvrable.

I'm going to say a Y-wing dial but with speed 3 banks red as well.

Quote

Implies a system slot to me

Result:

  • Primary Weapon (Turret) 2
  • Agility 1
  • Hull 6
  • Shields 5
  • Dial - as Y-wing but red speed 3 banks
  • Systems, Cannon, Torpedo, Torpedo, Torpedo
  • Focus, Target Lock

....essentially it's a scurrg or K-wing which is worse in pretty much every way. And it's so ugly.

Well...that's not fair. It's not canon.

But it is already within the scope of the FFG scope of star wars stuff, being one of the ships in the relatively recent Age Of Rebellion ace sourcebook.

latest?cb=20150304214346

It's still ugly and stupid looking.

Ooh... You may want to sit down; I have bad news for you...

Maybe the A-9 Vigilance interceptor?

Tie Experimental mk-1.

Attack: 3

Agility: 3

Hull: 4

Shields: 0

Actions: Evade, Barrel roll, Focus

Dial: Similar to the Special Forces tie, but without 3-turn, and 2 White 1-bank backwards move, all the rest Banks Green and all the rest turns reds.

In his primary arc, it has a line which divides in 2 it arc.

Title: One-Sided Laser.

When you perform a primary weapon attack in your right arc, you may add 2 Focus Results or 1 Crit Result to your dice roll.

When you defend from an attack from your left arc or outside your primary arc, you may add an Evade result.

Everytime I see this thing is only worth 25 pts I throw a Blue Squadron Novice or Red Squadron Veteran in the garbage.

When attacking - If your attack hits, splat the defender with some kind of biomechanical organotech goo that does something really nasty to the defender then cancel all dice results.

Escape Pod Special Rules: Escape Pod can be deployed from the Tantive. It has to be manned by 3P0 and R2D2. When deployed roll one attack die. On a black result the pod will execute a straight 1 maneuver. On a HIT result it will execute a left bank 1 maneuver. On a CRIT result it will execute a right bank 1 maneuver. Each turn it must execute this same maneuver. All ships at range 1-2 of 3P0's pun attach will suffer a reduction of 1 attack and 1 agility based on the sheer annoyance.

If Escape Pod is destroyed Rebels automatically lose.

But it would have to be destroyed by Scum, because Imperials will just hold their fire.

...did he just? Wow...

Miranda and Nym are already in game. FFG beat me to it.

Anymore ships that should be larger than the Outrider, shrunk down to small base and given ridiculous upgrades at a low base cost... that’s what I don’t want to see.

Is it bad that I actually WANT to see some of these ships? XD
