Let's Get Positive!

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing

There's been a lot of hate on the forums lately, so let's have a big show of unity, shall we?

Let's see how many likes we can get this post to. I know we can get AT LEAST 50.

Let's go!

Let's just be clear, I hate people who say "like this post."

Like if you agree.

I feel like we are duplicating efforts here. Why is that?

Positivity is the key.

Because no matter how may times we post the message, it won't get across to some people :)

Any reason for being positive? The developers pretty much admitted of not being able to fix old ships, and not having the interest in helping out low health, high agility, arc-locked ships.

It's the time of turrets and bombs. And they are fine with that. What they are not fine with, is RAC + Kylo, ( = Imperial presence in competitive games).

They understaffed, have way too many projects, and have a *** plan to deal with the problems of the game (namely, not dealing with them).

SO why should you be happy? Oh, if you are a rebel or scum player, you will be able to continue as you were, getting new regening, high attack, PWT or turret ships, with fully loaded upgrade bars. Oh you were playing the *other* faction in the game? Haha, suck it up, because we really don't have the will, the means, or the time to fix any of them. But don't worry, you will get a new ship, that is probably good. We have no idea though, because we go by feel, based on tiny datapoints. GOOD LUCK!

Little does @RufusDaMan realize, I'm a self-appointed Imperial-For-Life.

You can be positive because you are playing a game you enjoy (if you're not enjoying it, we need to have a talk - skip ahead to the bottom of the post)

You can be positive because despite the game designers limited bandwidth and inability to solve problems, there is nothing preventing you from using what you love.

You can be positive because there is epic play, and the Imperials actually have pretty darn good toys in that space.

IF YOU ARENT ENJOYING XWING....

This piece is for you. You need to first understand why you don't enjoy it. Do you just find certain combos annoying? Is it that "your" favorite pilot is no good? I bring this up because if the root of the issue is just your list isn't the top list, that's your problem. Now, I realize there are annoying combos and problems to the game. If your gripe is something prevalent and specific like this, it's time to shake things up and fix it!

No, not nerfs. Not faqs. Change the parameters of your game and life becomes more fun.

Through this summer until now, I have tried a whole lot of xwing. And I had a ton of fun doing it. What did I do to make sure I wasn't playing the same thing against the same other things?

1. Epic. Seriously, you don't realize how rapidly the meta changes until you ramp up the points. Especially if you house rule that you have to use an epic ship. Instead of playing 2-3 standard games against the same two lists, play one super game against one other fleet. It's awesome.

2. Limited events. Play in an event with limited ship models allowed. The easiest way this works is a thematic game - only ships from a time period or specific battle, etc. Don't have one? Download cryodex and then start one. That's how I got one off the ground, and the people who played are asking for another one. Guess what? Not a single meta list appeared, because the rules were limited to specific ships!

3. Missions - fly the missions. For a better experience, fly them only with what was available at the time of their release. The c-roc campaign set was tons of fun. I want to fly other missions too now.

If you truly do not enjoy competitive x-wing, reject it and try something else. If those things don't appeal to you either, maybe you really are in the wrong game...

Whenever I'm feeling down like this, I just open my case and gaze at my Punisher and feel all warm inside. Sure, the warmth is fueled by rage and tinged with a seething, feverish determination to find SOME **** way to fly this majestic beast, but it's still warmth! And just TRY not to hum Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful world" the next time you fly it. Change your life!

I would settle for don't be a **** on the forums.

Let’s play that the next time I blast that Winnebago of a ship out of the sky.

Oh please. That last game came down to two hull points left on your only ship.

np
we can be positive by being DOUBLY NEGATIVE!

It was a “W”. I’ll take it. And the first match you got smoked.

Please. Just finding my flight legs. And considering my list vs. your list a match that close is practically a win in my favor.

There is a big difference between practical wins and actual wins. I prefer the latter.

Image result for anger leads to hate meme

Shake those wiley Sheev tendrils off! :P

Meme's aside my LGS group have been having fun lately with lots of different game types and trying to out-do each others attempts at making 'anti-meta' lists. We somehow have an almost perfectly equal number of Rebel, Scum and Imperial players. My mate who is imperial through and through has been making absolutely ludicrous lists to combat the monotony. He tabled me with a swarm leader Whisper a few weeks ago, and is now running an alpha strike list with a Punisher and 2 bombers. He still takes RAC and Kylo to tournaments, but he's having a lot of fun regardless of the 'state of the game'. He's also quite excited to mix his shenanigans and his tournament lists in a few weeks with a Kylo Harpoon salvo list once GfH is released.

Try something different, try something stupid. You might find something you actually like. Keep on keeping on is what I'm saying :P and maybe the gunboat will be the Empires saviour?

And remember,

Image result for your anger gives you great power

Well, I mean, we get the Gunboat...

I've played competitive X-wing ONCE. I usually play on my kitchen table with friends and family. No LGS, no tournaments.

Guess what? I really enjoy X-wing! I rarely see any scum ships on the table. Most games are Imperial vs Rebel, and lists are built according to a simple rule: what sounds like fun to fly tonight?

Play for fun FIRST, and worry about trying to win with a fun list in a fun format as a secondary concern. Once you cut the meta from the scene and drop the win at all costs philosophy, X-wing is easily very enjoyable.

We had an awesome local tournament last weekend and not a single Dengar or Nym showed up. (Or RAC/Kylo for the people that think he is a problem). There were only one scum (Bossk and Slave 1 Bomber) and one rebel team (Myself in a Ghost with Ahsoka TIE) and the rest were a mix of Imperial Interceptors, Bombers, Defenders and Fighters. Great times were had by all and we are already planning the next one. Play with people that make it fun and I don't know, fly casual!

Just realized that nowadays it's really hard to get a big show of unity in the States...

So THAT'S why more people aren't liking the post!
