I have a pretty extensive Imperial fleet and want to know about easy techniques for making my ships stand out. Modifications and/or putting Imperial/First Order logos on stuff is what I really want to do, but I need ideas for what and how. Thanks!
Easy Modifications for a Novice
Making or getting stencils would really help. Especially for Imperial/FO ships, your logos should, IMO, be crisp and clean and free-handing it would be difficult unless you have tons of patience.
I've repainted almost all of my TIEs and have been pleased with white with gold trim with minimal additional embellishments. (Keep an eye out, I'll be posting pics of them soon)
Otherwise, Royal Guard TIE modded winglets are avaiable online on Shapeways and places like that for easy mods.
Boom. I've actually made my own stencils so that I could manipulate the size of each one so that it fits well on each ship, but I have yet to apply them to any of my Imperial ships...
Anything else I could do with modifying the models themselves instead of decals?
I think the simplest thing to do is to use a unique color or style for the cockpit glass of your fleet. Most people don't seem to custom paint their ships, so if your ships had emerald green glass for example, that alone could make them stand out.
If you mean for them to stand out against other peoples ships for the sake of clarity while playing, you could simply spray paint your bases & pegs your favorite color and be done with it.
Logos like the Imperial cog are probably going to be a pain to do en mass. Maybe if you invented your own squadron logo that's easy to reproduce could be one way to do it. Doesn't have to be a logo either, but say chevrons or a pair of colored stripes that every ship has on a wing or side of the cockpit.

Would that be easy to do in Sharpie? I saw a thread about that awhile ago.
I use paint markers by Sharpie for my metallic highlights, I think they're great.
I don't see why not. I use metallic sharpies on my ships without any issues. One guy, Refugeanoth(?) uses them to do whole ships at times. And come to think of it, I've seen in the past some people using Star Wars "nail art" which are basically stickers, to add logos too.
Edited by Force MajeureCool. I think I have a blue Sharpie and a ruler lying around somewhere for some cool stripes.
Now I just need a name for this squadron!
Hmm...
Gecko Squadron! Now just need some fancy backstory for them...

"Known for their unorthodox methods that always produced results, Maelstrom Gecko Squadron's unique blue markings made it stand out against other, less accomplished squadrons."
There you go. Feel free to use/not use as you see fit. An allusion to a backstory always make the game more fun (for me).

Or I could do something like Black 8 Pilot.
"Led by the legendary ______, ________ Squadron was unrivaled in their tactics and modified combat ships."

How would I do that?

Very small amount of paint can make a difference. Just look around, use water based paint and less is more.
