OL Tomax Vess

What do you think of this? I know the bomber will burn down quick but I'm hoping the other two will be juicier targets and take some of the heat off Tomax.

I've run similar lists to this. I understand most of the moving parts, but why are you giving Vessery Cruise Missiles? Most of the time, if he's in Range, I think you want to invest your time double-tapping as much as you can. Also, I feel that this should very definitely be the case when he can shoot first so that your target has reduced agility, likely down to 1 or 0 in today's meta.

The cruise missile is there for a couple reasons. I had the points, a white 4k, and it can be a good distraction. I know I fly differently when I face cruise missiles.

While I do agree with the changed flight patterns, I think what you'll mostly get is an enormous amount of focus fire on Vessery since you have so many points stacked on him. If you have the points, you could just go up to an Ion Cannon or put a bomb on Tomax Bren. You could even drop Stealth Device on Omega Leader to put a few more points on Tomax Bren... Or you could switch into a Ryad build for the points re-allocated.

This is the build I've done most recently. It melts 1 Evade ships.

Trident 100/100

  • Colonel Vessery (35) [38]
    • TIE/D (0)
    • Tractor Beam (1)
    • Veteran Instincts (1)
    • TIE mk. II (1)
  • Countess Ryad (34) [35]
    • TIE/x7 (-2)
    • Juke (2)
    • TIE mk. II (1)
  • Tomax Bren (24) [27]
    • Unguided Rockets (2)
    • Crack Shot (1)
    • Long-Range Scanners (0)

It's solid. Ram your Defenders right into the breach, I fly them in a tight pair, Ryad then Vess, with Tomax trailing behind. Tomax can telegraph a first target or provide a nice feint to lure a certain ship off, all the while keeping a Target Lock for Vessery available. Tomax really wants to be sniping with his Rockets; they are most effective for him at Range 3 where he won't [necessarily] get blasted into oblivion. His 5K really helps keep him around Range 3, but mostly he's just a spotter for Vessery. With that said, sometimes it's just more effective to bring low-cost, generic TIE Bombers, like in this list:

  • Colonel Vessery (35) [38]
    • TIE/D (0)
    • Tractor Beam (1)
    • Veteran Instints (1)
    • TIE mk. II (1)
  • Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) [18]
    • Unguided Rockets (2)
    • LRS (0)
  • Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) [18]
    • Unguided Rockets (2)
    • LRS (0)
  • Omega Leader (21) [26]
    • Comm Relay (3)
    • Juke (2)

Now this will have almost all of your enemy's list TL'd for Vessery and he can have a blast... or several. Or you could switch around to Cruise missiles and Extra Munitions on your bombers and run Countdown or some other pocket ace.

I like your suggestions. I haven't flown Ryad since the nerf but I'll give your double defender list a try sometime.

The nerf shouldn't phase you much if you fly Defenders well. Plus, they joust well, so you shouldn't have to get too fancy.
