When will we get Imperial Astromechs?

By SkullNBones, in X-Wing Off-Topic

When will the Imperial Astromech get some attention? Thoughts?

Will we see a new TIE with a IA slot or crew cards first?

Where are no TIE or other imperial figthers with astromech support I am aware of.

The V-wing was the precursor to the TIE, and had an Astromech. It appears on screen in Revenge of the Sith and off screen in multiple novels. An Imperial expansion with astromechs could happen. Maybe with a title to allow equipping generic Rebel and Scum astromechs.

Well.. There is that black and silver BB-8 style astromech in the upcoming movie. You never know, they might do something with that.

When V-Wings and ARCs and Eta-2s are a thing for the Imps.

I guess it is just BB8 in undercover disguise

I wasn't sure if you were making a joke, so I decided to look him up and post him. His designation is BB-9E. I'm fairly certain this isn't the first time we've seen an imperial astromech, but I could be wrong. Personally, I'd like to see them at least print him on a crew card.

I think there are imperial astromechs but there are no ships that use them. So as a crew upgrade they will work but not as an extra slot.

I'm pretty sure we see Imperial astromechs on the Death Star. As others have said, though, they don't get Starfighters.

V-wings anyone?

Indeed. As a crew card, an imperial astromech would work fine. heck, I'd pay through the nose for an imperial crew card with the text effect of the R2 or R5 astromech, because the Lambda Shuttle and Decimator respectively would love them beyond all propriety...

As actual astromechs, you'd need a mechanic to avoid R2-D2 or BB-8 ending up on an Imperial ship - if you wanted a V-wing or similar, then adding the slot via a title which only allows generic astromechs (a sort of reverse Havoc) works well; if the rules state "you may only equip unique astromechs if they are "Imperial Only" you're covered and could still have a BB--9E card.

Auxiliary Droid Interface: 0 points: Title: Imperial only: You may equip another title. You may only equip this if your shield value is not 0. Your upgrade bar gains the Astromech slot. You may not equip Unique Astromech cards unless they are Imperial Only.

Dont be ridiculous :) FFG would never give us Imperials dial mutating cards like...

  • BB8
  • Kanan Jarrus
  • Unhinged Astro
  • R2 Astro
  • Hera Sendulla
  • Nien Nub

The best we got is Electronic Baffle Shuttles and Adrenaline Rush Tomax.

Alot of Imp Dials are pretty green already but the ones that arent Soontir or Kylo Silencer quality really are hungry for stuff like Kanan especially ( Looking at you Imp Boba Fett! )

A new line of Imperial Only Astromechs....makes a ton of sense. Would love to see it happen!

I can picture imperial Astromechs in a similar role than the crew version of R2-D2, i.e. only used on larger Craft.

Imp versions of ARC-170, V-wing, ETA-2 and dare I say it X-wings and Y-wings could all come with titles that allow either non-unique Astromechs (no trash-mechs), or crew card ‘astromechs’ specifically listed in the title, like BB-9E or whatever. No new titles for existing Imp ships are needed.
