Rivals! Official Draft format! Neutral characters!

We sure the draft pack is playable in standard constructed play? Netrunner had draft packs too that weren't playable in the standard format.

From the article:

What's more, every card featured in Rivals is legal for constructed play in Destiny , making this a great way to expand your collection.”

Of course, FFG’s articles haven’t all been correct in the past anyway...

Thanks, can't say I read it word for word. Seems unfortunate. They sure do like to introduce a lot of low cost, OP characters in these sets don't they.

I’m not sure these guys are that OP... Anakin’s special is pretty weak, as is Lobot’s, their dice aren’t great, and they all have pretty low health. They’ll be fun, but I don’t think they’re broken.

Conflicted Anakin is the partner Qui-Gon has been looking for? That’s the first thing I’ll be testing out.

Really looking forward to this, maybe more so than Legacy. I love building decks so this may bring me back to store play.

Funny, I started a thread a while ago with the suggestion of neutral/grey characters... it was dismissed and doubted.

Already exists, his name is Kanan.

I like that it's not just a Jawa! That leads me to believe that there will be more types

This.

I'm not even sure we'll see any of these in competitive play. They're great for draft/sealed and casual though, I like them.

Ketsu is probably my least favorite of the revealed neutral heroes.

11/14pt for 9hp is pretty whacked, only has 1 melee and 1 ranged so she is 100% divided damage and that always causes issues, and her ability is basically feeding into a Redeploy strat.
Except shes both deadly and squishy enough to justify just murdering right off, nullifying her ability. And a bit expensive to be a meatshield at that to try and take advantage of that mentality.

FFG must not like ketsu or something. Seems like every iteration i see of her from FFG, she's pathetic....

According to the current rules for team building, you can't play the neutral characters in constructed. lol

A player must select either hero or villain characters; hero and villain characters cannot be on the same team.

You can play them in constructed, but only if you include another hero that's either a hero or a villain. So no teaming up Ani with Lobot in constructed.

"Anakin can be built with an exclusively hero or exclusively villain deck in constructed play, /Anakin can slot into a hero or villain deck perfectly in constructed play"

Mixing hero/villain cards only works in draft.

"In the draft format, you can add as many copies of a card to a deck as you want, even crossing the boundaries of morality to mix hero, villain, and neutral cards in the same deck."

Except for Jawas and Ewoks or some generic droid character, what would dictate being gray instead of yellow?

lower point cost characters are gray to prevent cheap color splashing. I assume.

She seems like a fine pairing for Boba, due to sides?

CHARACTERS
Jawa, Jawa, Jawa, Jawa, Jawa

You'll probably need to change this once we get the new set.

Anakin and Ketsu are okay; they're at least potentially with decent damage for their cost - no, neither is FN or NuPhasma, but that's because FN and NuPhasma are stupid. Comparing them to most other characters and they are at least decent enough to fill in slots on teams. Although not sure why Ketsu is 11 points instead of 10; feels like a potential screw over if someone is unlucky enough not to be able to draft any characters, and it's going to happen. just seems kind of arbitrary.

Lobot is garbage, and evidence that FFG have no ****ing idea how to design support characters. Why does he have all 1s? Why does he have *conditional* Guardian combined with low health? His special is actually pretty good (it's possibly the best 'wild' modifier we've seen on a character) but they really need to stop making characters with bad dice and then one bomb special side. Either give them better dice so they are playable without the special, or go all in on the special and give them two special sides.

Jawa is....probably bad for 6 points? I don't know. My gut instinct is it's bad, particularly when you're not getting a colour out of it. Though I've got to agree I want to see the Palp vs Jawa super grudge match.

Disappointed we're not getting two dice for each character out of this. Would have been a bit of insurance against a bad character draft and meant you only had to buy one pack; of course I'm sure that's why they didn't do it. I'm all for FFG turning a profit on this, but some of their decisions just seem unnecessary.

Based on the rules as they are currently written you can not play neutral characters. Articles aren't rules. :-P

Now, obviously they will update them as when they were written when neutral characters weren't a thing, I just found it interestingly humorous that without an update, you can't play them.

You also cant play them until the product is actually available and there is no point updating the rules until they are.

I dont think any of the Characters are OP, they will just allow some builds that werent available before, example we can now do Young Obi-Wan with his Padawan Anakin. I think the bigger impact will be the 5 Upgrade/Support cards in the deck. There is the Fang Fighter which will further help Vehicle decks and there appears to be another Lightsabrer, with the sides I can see it looks like a 2 cost, values arnt high enough to warrant a 3 cost.

Other thing to consider is most shops only do 1 sealed/drafted tourney a set, 2 at most, and we have 3 to 4 months between sets. Odds are most players may want 2 anyways. Mind you I moved recently and don’t have a nearby shop that runs it. And I got burnt out on blind packs. But the draft pack and the new starters should fill things out for me

Yeah, needing two for a play set isn't a big deal if you go to two draft events.
