The Nezumi, or 'ratlings'. They were sometimes rather silly in the way they were written, but could also be very interesting, and many players loved them. Nezumi also had an empire long long ago...or at least they claim they did. At some point, they may have been servants and / or food for the Naga. In modern Rokugan, they were mostly cautious scavengers and survived by fighting only when necessary.

Nezumi also had t heir own 'clan'. It was the result of a vote that members of the L5R fan club participated in. They were round for quite awhile, but then most ratlings sacrificed themselves by going into a mystical realms to stop the deadly force 'Tomorrow' (it's a long story).

In this new L5R, the Crab intro story featured furry beings helping the Crab. Those are mostly likely Nezumi.

The Kenku. Crow / Raven humanoids. They are another ancient race pre-dating humanity. Some say they taught many of the finest sword techniques to truly worthy samurai, especially certain Crane clan bushi. Most Kenku are very reclusive and almost never show themselves to humans, though there are exceptions. Some of them enjoy playing tricks on humans, often to test the strength of their honor.

The Zokujin. A small-ish humanoid reptilian race. They had little contact with humans for most of the Empire's history. At one time, the Lion clan had enslaved some Zokujin (they called them 'copper goblins') to work in their copper mines. Later, it was revealed that a tribe of Zokujin lived inside the Dragon mountains, and they aided the daimyo of the Dragon's shugenja family.

The Kitsune. There is a race of fox-spirits that can shapeshift to human form known as Kitsune, and there was also a minor clan called the 'Fox Clan' that had the family name Kitsune. The Fox Clan did have several members that were actual Kitsune fox spirits, or at least were descended from them. The Fox Clan was absorbed into the Mantis Clan.

Later in the L5R CCG, the Kitsune family featured many Shugenja that could summon not only fox spirits, but all sorts of interesting animal spirits (bears, boars, bunnies, and even bees!).

You mean - SKR'TCH'TCH

The only stronghold I ever loved besides a straight Crab was The Warrens Of The Nezumi - only 3 provinces but it was soooooooooo good!

5 (of 6) Ratling Strongholds in CCG were 3, but with high PS, Provinces only. One exception was last printed one, with standard four and completely different mindset behind it.
