R4 Agromech and Deadeye

By Cow-of-Doom, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi all!

I've been playing X Wing for about a year, and have spent a bunch of time looking around these forums, but never made an actual account until today! I just purchased the Most Wanted (as I actually got my hands on a Y Wing expansion finally), and was wondering about a specific part of deadeye and r4 Agromech. I've poked around on the forums and online, and can't seem to find anything relating to this particular problem, only about shenanigans with deadeye, synced and biggs (that one's a doozy)

In my instance, I had a torpedo, R4 and Deadeye on Kavil. I know that per Deadeye you can spend the focus in place of a target lock per deadeye. However, with Agromech, the wording simply references spending a focus when attacking. SO, when using the focus for deadeye instead of a target lock, does using that focus count as spending it, or does it count for paying for the attack? Does the wording of Agromech refers to using the focus token per normal rules in the attack itself (to flip focuses to hits), or to any time that you spend a focus for something pertaining to an attack (spending it to attack with a torpedo)

*Also, since I've never posted anything before, is this the right place to put this thread? I would rather start learning now instead of making somebody mad later :)*

Thanks!!

You're in the right place and welcome to the forums!

One place you should check for answers to questions you may have is the latest FAQ. On page 20 of 4.3.2, there's an explanation of how R4 interacts with Deadeye. The answer to your question is you can't get a target lock from R4 when using Deadeye and any secondary weapon.

BTW, the latest FAQ is 4.3.3. There were only 3 clarifications in the FAQ.

There's no defender when you spend the focus to fire using Deadeye, so you don't pick up a free lock.

Ah ok. Makes sense now.

Thanks for pointing out the specific point in the FAQ to me: I know the major changes that have come out in the last few (Palp, x7, Deadeye etc), but havent really taken the time to look at specifics of every card and all that. Do they include every change they've ever made in every FAQ (like a copy at least of what has changed), or does one have to look back at every other FAQ release to find any changes for a specific card? (this question is what has daunted me from going in and looking at everything. I've always been under the assumption that they only include what cards they change in the FAQ in that release, and that you have to go back to other ones the rest of the time).

No, its a cumulative document. The red text is the most recent added portions when a new version is released. You don't need to, and should avoid, looking at old versions. Only the newest version is valid.

Awesome. Thanks for all the help you guys!! I'm happy to be joining such a friendly and helpful forum!

Other times we just keep going around and around repeating what we already said

We only repeat what we already said to those that don't listen to the voice of experience and reason. :D

Ditto :P

Or the overwhelming majority.

This appears to be a recurring problem on the forum (when somebody posts a question asking the exact same question that the thread is about. *facepalm*) :D
