Discarded Upgrade Cards

By eliteone, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hahahahaha, no big deal really, 5-10 points tops in a few games. Never knew that they only count towards points if they are still on the ship when/if the ship gets destroyed.

That is indeed the case.

The only count for points if the ship they are on is destroyed. Otherwise, they don't count towards fleet points for scoring...

Which is why we had the irrelevancy discussion when someone asked if Darth Vader being used to discard Minister Tua also Discarded the equipped ECM......

... There's no reason to do it. Just discard the ECM.

These are two different statements.

Tournament regs, page 6, emphasis mine:

"When a player is instructed to discard an upgrade card, he or she flips it facedown instead. Facedown upgrade cards are out of play, but remain equipped to their respective ships. They are not counted toward a player’s score unless the ship to which they are equipped is destroyed."

OP seems to think that discarded upgrades are no longer equipped to the ship, and so don't count for points when it dies. That's not the case - they just act like any other upgrade.

Upgrades, discarded or not doesn't matter, are only counted of the ship they are on gets destroyed.

Yes - this is what i thought! Never played it that way but thought I caught an error and it turns out not to be one. Thanks rules forum!

Presumably however if someone does use Vader to kill Tua, then the ECMs remain in place as there is no requirement for a ship to have an upgrade icon in order to have the upgrade card after the fleet building is complete? Though how that interacts with profundity I don’t know

We asked the question on a related topic (CC) almost a year ago - no answer.

its a presumption. Not necessarily a correct one, but not incorrect either.
