TIE Striker Wing Removal Question

By Praetorate of the Empire, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I just got a TIE Striker and can't figure out how the wings are attached.

Ideally, I'd like to take off and reattach the wings for my repaint, but I want the wings to remain able to move.

Has anyone done this? I couldn't really find anything on the forums, even though I'm fairly certain I've seen this around somewhere.

I can't tell you how to remove them but I can tell you that I painted mine without removing them and without losing the ability to move them. It wasn't a big hassle, the TIE bomber/punisher/advanced is a lot worse to deal with.

Thanks! If that's the case, this'll be a cakewalk by comparison. I've already painted one of each of those, plus 2 TIE Interceptors. :P

They aren't great pictures, but they get the point across. You need to get a knife and wiggle it into the illustrated breaks between the top of the cockpit and and the line just above the wings. Then slowly do that on both the front and back part and on both sides, and slowly push the cover out of its slot. Then the wings come out nice and easily!

Ooooo - how does it look if you put them back on backwards?!

I cut out the panels on my Striker, then I painted it to look like a bat skeleton. (I would post pictures, but it says I can't. If anyone has any suggestions.)

Upload it to Imgur and paste the direct image link here. You can only upload images up to a certain size directly to the forum.

Unfortunately, those darn sculptors (mostly the person who did the parting) designed the wings so you cannot do such a thing, The pins coming out of the front and back of the attachment point are different lengths, and even though I tried it, the idea was DOA.

And this is what sprue clippers are for :P

This is something I'm planning for a TIE Bomber mod... Which is the reason my question was asked in the first place!

It looks like the skeleton of a mechanical bat. Spooky!

How do you cut out the wings? Thinking about it for the Silencer or something.

Yes! I was making it look like a bat. Nice job, Force!

I used an X-Acto knife and about 3 hours of work.

I recently bought sanding files and if I were to this project again, I would sand the inside so they wouldn't be so rough.

I might pick up a Silencer just to do the bone theme again, now that you mention it. :P:D
