The Most Evil Thing You've Done in a Game?

By Underachiever599, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Not in Star Wars, but worst? **** and murder. No point in going into detail, but it was a damned dark campaign with cycles of revenge spiraling out of control. Not playing that anymore.

These days, I tend to play pretty nice people. My current character is an idealist wannabe jedi who is pretty damned devoted to sidestepping necessary evils. While she obviously isn't much of a fan of the empire, she is wary of most rebels she's bumped into as well. After all, something rubs her the wrong way about the idea of violently restoring democracy by toppling a regime that arguably can be considered democratically elected, but she's slowly coming around to it. The other PCs are more grey (of the darker shade), in particular the force sensitive zabrak who is a violent criminal and compeletly abhored by the idea of taking someone's free will away from them, meaning that he's perfectly fine with threats, torture and murder to force someone to do something but sickened by the idea of jedi mind tricks. Currently, my characters sticks around him in order to be a positive influence, or if it comes to that, stop him.

One Halloween many, many, many years ago I did one that I am proud of to this day. It one required a little bit of setup on my part and the involvement of everyone at the table to pull off. Well, almost everyone at the table.

I started the game off much like I always do, a little curtain puller encounter. The team - your usual rebel operative team - was at the base doing base things when the teams technician is called by a friend down in the base's R&D to come play with a new toy they had scavenged from alien wreck. After several hours of playing with this massive, impressive looking device that nobody knew what it did - headphones attached to a mainframe of some kind - the PC tech tried the headphones on and fired up the machine.

Nothing happened. Totally inert.

At that point, C&C called with a mission and off she went. It was a "Go get the macguffin" mission, nothing too out of the ordinary. But once the team got into the thick of the mission, they found out that they had bad intel, the odds were much tougher than they anticipated. Even worse, a couple of PCs made bad decisions and the mission was rapidly going to ****. The problem was exasperated when the team's long time Dark Jedi nemesis showed up. One PC got himself killed (protecting the Tech), the team Jedi turned dark from fear and desperation fighting The Nemesis (this was under the D6 engine when turning was much easier), one team member was about to put the rabid Jedi down - and suddenly the characters were fighting. And then the players started getting heated. One stormed off. The entire game (and real life friendships) utterly fell apart right before our eyes, with the Technician running around trying to be the voice of reason and calm, keeping things together in vain.

That's when her friend in R&D pulled the headphones off her. "Are you okay?" She looked around, she had never left the lab, it was some kind of super VR device. Everyone else at the table - who was in on the joke - started smiling, the tension quickly evaporating out of the room.

The Tech's player got up and pretty much stood on my chest swearing to murder me to death for that.
