Twin Tractor Beam TIE/Ds with...?

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm going to a small store tourney this Sunday. I'm pretty set on Vessery and Ryad as you see them below, but who should be their #3?

Colonel Vessery (35)
Wired or Rage (1)
Tractor Beam (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/D (0)

Countess Ryad (34)
Adaptability (0)
Tractor Beam (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/D (0)

I'm bouncing back & forth between Wired and Rage on Vessery and am considering Captain Jonus or Omega Leader.

Captain Jonus (22)
A Score to Settle (0)
Unguided Rockets (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)

"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)

Any input?

Omega Leader is definitely a strong closer, whereas Jonus doesn't particularly bring much to the list. Bomber's aren't terribly agile, unguided rockets are debatably only slightly better than his primary and you're action locked into focusing if you plan on using them often, and his pilot ability doesn't bring much of any real impact. I think that should be a pretty clear choice for Omega Leader. Neither defender is actually a great closer either, as they're too low PS to outmaneuver most ships and don't have enough action economy manipulation to compensate for the low PS. Rage does fix that slightly for Vess, but in general that is a terrible choice of EPT for him. Putting ASTS on him makes him a big threat early against his debt to pay target, and makes him enough of a priority that your opponent probably won't let him get to be the last ship standing, where OL can really clinch the fight for you.

Any interest in Pure Sabacc for the 3rd ship? With Rage or Crack Shot on Sabacc, that'd free up a point for Juke or Ruthlessness on Vessery.

I also don't dislike VI Vessery, particularly if going with Omega Leader. They'd both be at PS8, and Countess could take A Score to Settle.

With that Jonus, however, I don't like ASTS. You have neither shields to protect against crits, nor does it work with Unguided Rockets due to their modification restriction.

Lastly, how set are you on TIE Mk. IIs? It seems like there'd be a fair number of points for grabs if dropping those, and taking A Score to Settle on Vessery. 29 points possible for the 3rd ship. Omega Specialist /SF with Adaptability/FCS/LWF could help get target locks for Vess if the first engagement happens before you were able to lock with actions. Palp Shuttle? That's kinda silly, but it'd probably hit hard, post tractor beams.

Thanks for the insight guys.

My thinking with the Jonus build was that at PS 6, movement/attack order is very flexible. I'm not going to win the PS war even when trying, so I may as well make the best of it.

With Unguided Rockets & LWF, the bomber is virtually a TIE Defender with 3 attack, "3" agility and 6 health. The dials aren't terribly far off either. Your're right about the Crit from ASTS not working with Unguided Rockets; I totally overlooked that. Getting rid of ASTS and getting Cool Hand in its place would be nice so I can get a focus if I K turn. ASTS may as well go on Vessery.

I'll fool around with getting rid of the Mk.IIs and see what I can build with the extra points.
