Murderous Marauder Preview

Interesting figure upgrade, you get the 'negative' of the general, but precise. Hmmm...

Am I seeing this right?

Ravos is a champion upgrade that is siege only?

If so... crazy

Yeah I've only loosely read the rules, but this means he could champion upgrade a unit of Spined Threshers, but he could not be a heavy upgrade ( unless there is also another card ) for infantry ( or cavalry, which raise another questions for me, heavy upgrades out already only target infantry right, even if cavalry would mechanically work we have to be able to assume that some siege units can't travel the speed of mounts )?

So are we switching to Friday articles? And was that flesh ripper one just release prematurely? :)

This Ravos is one mean customer, he must be stopped!

This is how I read the rules as well. Th icons in the bottom left corner are the restricitons. So if I'm right this is read as: "Siege only, Uthuk only". And being a champion card it must go in the champion slot (not the siege slot), of a siege unit.

Its interesting he adds Precise 1 to a siege unit that has a reroll ability baked in. I guess more rerolls are useful though.

Yeah I don't think the Spined Threshers even have a Siege Slot, though I could be wrong. What is the last icon on the 6 tray unit?

Well Ravos is still a champion slot, just only on a siege unit.

The precise seems kinda redundant to me, but extra rerolls are extra rerolls nontheless since this is a game where "You cannot reroll a reroll" isnt a thing.

I find it weird his "Insatiable Hunger" card is...raw speed.....he doesnt look like someone that would be blazing quick i fully expected it to be his "healing" ability when i saw the name.

This guy is as fast as cavalry! Why is something so fat so fast!? lol

Spined threshers have a champion slot available, and are already siege. So that's how he fits in.

Duh, i'm thinking flesh rippers. my bad

I understand, I was just iterating that they don't even have a siege slot and probably no siege unit ever will have as then you could heavy upgrade a unit with its own unit type which doesn't make sense.

Waiqar are a sometimes food. Elves are an anytime food. Om nom nom nom.

I mean, given what we know so far, what are the odds that Obscenes won't be a siege unit?

Makes perfect sense.

The Snack Pack is coming.

arent obscenes huge anyway?

Ravos is an Obscene

Watch out if Ravos deploys across from you. March 4 with a 2 follow up is a cavalry type missile. And he really doesn't care about the panic token for crashing.

well that answers that.

I could see the regular Obscenes being smaller than him but only slightly. I doubt they'd be so much smaller they'd be better fit as cavalry than a siege.
They could be an in-between size basically. Still a siege for all purposes, just not as massive as the other sieges (though bigger than nonsieges)

Yeah, he's going to be awesome to behold on the field of battle. I am very pleased with his Insatiable Hunger upgrade. It's an iconic Ravos trait. It's so versatile, too! Man, these Uthuk are looking cooler and cooler...

Crazy that his upgrade allows his setup ability to be used, essentially. I'm excited to run him!

I'm not sure if i like his figure upgrade or not.

It adds the most stuff compared to other figure upgrades, but none of them affect the damage (Precise indirectly does but its going on a unit that has an innate reroll most of the time anyway). The singular wound per round will usually be meh unless theres a Hero or Rune Golem in range, since plinking 1 wound off of cavalry or a lancer each round is decent at best but not awesome.

The panic at the start is mostly an annoyance than a problem. Though it does mess with daqan inspiring-stacking since even if its 1 bane they gotta spend a turn removing it.
Steadfast (Fear) is always awesome, as Fear imo is one of the nastiest morale card sets.

It looks like it does two things, primarily. It definitely is a stick in the spokes of the inspiration stacking daqan strategy, slowing it down by a turn, and it looks like an extra turn is all the Uthuk really need to come to grips with the enemy in most cases.

It also fuels Uthuk synergy. We are seeing a theme of abilities that trigger on or react to the presence of panic tokens. I wouldn't be surprised to see more, making Ravos into something like a staple hero for panic-centric lists.

Perspective, maybe they're the good guys and everyone else is evil.

This makes him potentially get in range after round 1 to start using his wounds.
