FF SW Group on FB Admin is a sexist

Playing the devil's advocate, seeing as it's Kylo Ren who's doing the "get in the kitchen" thing, it's possible the point of this..."meme" is that Kylo's a horrible person for making this the first thing he thinks of when he is asked for assistance with this.

However, I find that incredibly unlikely, and as a highly intelligent woman I am fairly insulted that someone could find this funny. If i did social media at all, someone would be hearing a lot from me about this.

Amusingly I thought it was actually funny because it is so insulting and dumb, but that Kylo Ren connection is doing nothing for me. It gets less amusing when people get removed when pointing out that it is as well sexist, because then it becomes not a joke, but instead an expression of an agenda hiding behind the claim that it is just a joke. Rather unfunny.

But rather fitting to the guy who is more of a caricature than anything else. Just check out the rest of his facebook profile. Creationist bull, alt-right propaganda oh and naturally a self-proclaimed navy man. Happens when the military pays lousy. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.

And that's what terrifies me. I'm 46. There are a vanishingly small number of women my age that play TT RPGs.
I want the women in the generations that come AFTER me to not get turned off of TT RPGs because of assholes like this. I'm more than happy to body block for them to wrangle jerks to make their path a tiny bit smoother.

There is a simple solution for that problem, ignore people like him and just play with people more to your liking. I am not a fan of filter bubbles on your news feeds, but they are quite healthy to keep your real life enjoyable. ;-)
Works at least for me, doesn't matter if it's computer games, p&p rpgs or engineers and scientists. My circle of friends and acquaintance seems rather balanced.

In someway there is not even the need to fight reactionaries like him, because just being inclusive to the people around you will do more good than wasting energy. That facebook groups sucks? Well, I guess hosting a better one and investing time into that sounds like a good plan.
The G+ group was mentioned, sounds good, facebook in general has become a breeding ground for reactionaries, alt-right/neo nazi losers. So am not sure if the facebook platform itself is not part of the problem anyway. Especially as their targeted advertising has been used a lot lately to directly mobilise dissatisfied and angry people.

There's this one. https://www.facebook.com/groups/278733192265422/ It's pretty small and quiet but I've never seen anything inappropriate.

That's my group!

ok sorry guys one question: is it the (boring) joke or the reaction of the complaints that pisses u off so much?

The reaction of the complaints is what bothers me, though bothered might be a bit extreme.

The joke is a joke, and despite the feelings of a lot of people that it's inappropriate, the reality is that we live in a culture where both genders tell jokes at the expense of the other gender, and the gender norms that have been associated with them. So while I can see why people are upset, until we live in a world where I don't here jokes at the expense of men, I'm not really going to get out the protest signs about a joke about a cliche that was dead like 3 generations ago, and is mostly used to illustrate the difference in society now. Humor is sometimes at the expense of a person or group, and there is humor out there directed at every group. Singling out one doesn't really solve anything as far as I'm concerned.

Now you can think the joke is simply not funny, or in bad taste, and you can voice that opinion. But when someone starts banning people for saying that it was in bad taste, that's when someone's actions are actually going into the dewshnozzle department.

Smells like Regressiv Left. WWLD.. What would Leia Do? Laugh at it, and lead the Rebellion!

???

Wait which side?! The one that told someone they didn't like a joke or the one that immediately silenced all opposition?

I have no problem with sexist jokes. I can't say I crack them very frequently. if at all, but with an appreciation for dead baby joke like I have, you don't get to complain about other people's humor.

On the other hand, I have a very big problem with banning other people from a group because they said mean things about you, and shrieking about politically correct tyranny. I hate the PC Police as much as the next guy, but the only tyrant here is a power mad moderator who takes criticism like a five-year-old.

Also, Facebook is normie trash.

Oh great.... We get Kekistani slang here too now?!

Shadilay, my brother!

Would you honestly expect anything more sophisticated than 4chan terminology from someone who named themself "Degenerate Mind?"

I was hoping for it I guess...

Well then, my friend, you're in luck! The vast majority of my comments on here have absolutely nothing to do with meme culture.

I would be curious if the OP gets as incensed at the late night talk show hosts who make equally inappropriate and offensive jokes directed at the president and conservatives, or if all of the wrath is primarily "left aligned"

I guess the point went right over your head.

Not really. I take a joke for what it is. I hear jokes everyday that are offensive, as most of us likely do. I just don't go on the warpath and try and start a witch hunt about it.

Of course not, OP is decrying a sexist joke. The merits of complaining about humor that you don't like are certainly debatable, but you're comparing apples and oranges there.

Funny how you manage to bring the word "witch" into a thread about sexism. Just a coincidence, surely.

It's also a group about a nerdy rpg not a late night comedy show

Probably. Witch hunt is a very common expression, after all.

Considering how readily you read sexism into someone else's post, I believe you might be on one as we speak.

Common among conservatives with a need to denigrate their critics, yes.

Right, one comment is a "witch hunt". Guess you need a space that's safe from people expressing ideas.

Yeah, in a group of people who play RPGs, I bet your group has never said the word witch. Not the class in pathfinder, and I'm sure you've never talked about the Dathomiri ones. Yup, no precedent for the word witch in RPGs and star wars at all. I am surely a sexist. Calm down Stan.

Common among both sides to be sure.

It's about the context.

You're the one imagining witch hunts. I take it the whole situation has you excited.

Not at all. If I were unable to handle dissent or criticism, I don't believe I would be here.

One post is not a witch hunt, that is true; someone who looks at a common expression and sees the omnipresent hand of sexism at work, however, may very well be on one.

So there's no witch hunt, but there is one. Right. Whatever fits your narrative.
