FF SW Group on FB Admin is a sexist

By Scorpienne, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The ADMIN of the Star Wars Fantasy Flight Games RPG group posted this sexist bull.

Then he banned everyone who thought this was sexist bull.

If you enjoy the game, consider joining the group and letting them know what you think.

Also consider reaching out to Fantasy Flight on Twitter at https://twitter.com/FFGames

Wow.

Is that person actually affiliated with FFG or do they just manage a group on Facebook?

Yikes. That is not okay. At all.

I think (but am not sure) that he just manages the largest group for the FF SW game on Facebook.

Playing the devil's advocate, seeing as it's Kylo Ren who's doing the "get in the kitchen" thing, it's possible the point of this..."meme" is that Kylo's a horrible person for making this the first thing he thinks of when he is asked for assistance with this.

However, I find that incredibly unlikely, and as a highly intelligent woman I am fairly insulted that someone could find this funny. If i did social media at all, someone would be hearing a lot from me about this.

Well, apparently I got booted because I said it was unfunny and sexist. So, he heard a lot about it, but he didn't listen to a word.

I left after objecting to the content, pointing out to the main admin and other admins/moderators that it was sexist. It was clear that the all male Admin team didn't care about what their community thought and banned anyone male or female that objected to the sexist meme.

After I posted and left, they said they don't bow to the Tyranny of "Political Correctness"

That board does nothing to make Asmodee or FFG look good or make the Various FFG Star Wars games appealing to Women.

Not sure exactly what response you expect from FFG on the matter then if it doesn't pertain to their employees or their business.

Are you using the means available to you on FB to get the matter looked into/resolved?

Anywho I think these 2 posts will be the extent of my involvement in this. MTFBWY and such.

There's really no way to resolve it on FB. They have proven to be remarkably resistant to any cries of sexism or bigotry, choosing instead to side with the bigots and warn or ban the complainant. I also don't think or know if FFG would actually do anything, either, but people keep saying things like "Speak up when you see something wrong." so, here we are.

That's honestly what I thought too. I mean, he's a sith teenager with parental issues, the idea that he might not have the most modern views on gender roles isn't all that big of a stretch.

But then again, they do have Captain Phasma, who in theory has a significant role despite her gender. But then again, she's the only female I can recall in the First Order, and we don't even see her face so.....*shrugs*.

Personally, given my own sense of humor, and how it tends to revolve around turning a phrase into something unintended, I find the joke somewhat amusing. I just saw way too many hours of MST 3K to not have part of my brain set that up as a pun, given her word choice.

Is it crude, yes, but much of humor is. Not surprised people are upset by it though.

I'm more bothered by the poster's behavior. Just banning people for expressing their dislike is the more crappy behavior. I don't really have an issue with someone portraying a fictional, Neo-Space Nazi from the generation trying to Bring It Back, as being an a$$hole. It's sort of like "well yeah, of course he would do something like that."

I reported the first post in this thread so the admins here (FFG people afaik) will look into this. I added a comment about the post not bring a problem but the content you refer to IS a problem. Hope that raises some flags somewhere at HQ. Yeah, I might be naive here, bit you can only try. Thanks for pointing this out.

There were a few female crew members in the command center at Starkiller base.

So, I left the group after seeing the comments on the post. I enjoy crude humor, and the first time I saw it, on another page, I thought it was funny (even though I strongly disagree with the message, and I believe it is sarcastic anyways). But when I saw it on that page, all I could think about was how the women in the hobby would feel, in a hobby already dominated by men, seeing this meme. Worse, it was posted by the lead moderator. He could at least have turned off comments, but honestly should have deleted it when he saw people were offended... instead, he took the typical "f*** your feelings" route and just antagonized. So, I left. Wasn't anything else I could have done about the situation. I want my hobbies to be as inclusive as possible, and that page just proved that it wasn't up to that task.

Well, that was extremely unfunny, and I have a pretty lowbrow threshold of humor - although with the category 5 shitstorm of racism, sexism and violence that we currently live in under Dolt 45, this unfortunately seems to be par for the course.

I wonder if Marcy has room at her place? I have no problem sleeping on the floor for 3 more years. . . .

This is what i assumed it was. But maybe I'm giving too much credit given his response.

And that's what terrifies me. I'm 46. There are a vanishingly small number of women my age that play TT RPGs.

I want the women in the generations that come AFTER me to not get turned off of TT RPGs because of assholes like this. I'm more than happy to body block for them to wrangle jerks to make their path a tiny bit smoother.

I'm 33 and I'm upset by the lack of men my age that can cook. I personally love cooking, baking and drink mixing.

The kitchen is a workshop: it has tools; requires skill and training; can cause serious injury or make lots of money.

Wow, that is atrocious. The G+ Star Wars FFG group is 4 times as large and even the one specifically for GMing is as large as this one. Please feel free to come join us there, I run the GM one and I don't tolerate that kinda crap. We play by Wyld Stallyns rules and I will absolutely not tolerate that behavior.

Yeah, yeah, G+ stinks. Sure. But tell me FB & Twitter don't have their own stench right about now? They can't even stop actual nazis and manipulative foreign oligarchs, what chance do we have?

Vote with your feet and your dollars, it's the only recourse we have.

Edit: yeah, the G+ groups are a little slow. We can fix that....

I'm SO glad to hear that the "real" community here and on G+ is firmly rooted in 2017. :-) And I feel you on G+ vs Twitter vs FB. They're all rotten.

Any one willing to make a competing FB group? I'm already a mod for a large FB group and can't handle two, but I'm more than willing to help out. I mean, ideally, the best way to deal with it is to do them one better. Or better, FF makes one officially.

If it makes you feel better, in my travels around my area I see a pretty great number of younger women in the hobby. I daresay I see a fair number of women working at the stores and attending events even, so it feels like maybe there's yet hope.

I tried to discuss with them, but they were not willing to allow dissent. They have rules in the sidebar that literally state 'no pushing of social views on others' but disagreed when I said it could be argued that referencing a woman's place being the kitchen is a social issue.

It's a shame, because they are indeed the largest SWRPG group on facebook, and the founder is the Admin of not only that but the facebook Genesys Group and the facebook SWRPG GM group.

This is but one more reason to boycott Facebook.

Ahh, nice catch. I don't do much FB, but the Genesys group was one.
