Exclusive new cards attached to a book I don't have any desire to read. Not happy about this.

So don't buy it then? Easy. :)

Yup. I would have happily paid $15 for (quality) alt arts of Jenny's suite of cards. One of the virtues of LCGs and FFG's handling of LCG promos is that they have, at least in recent history, offered only alternate art promos and preview cards rather than mechanically unique and exclusive promos. All of the cards in the game, for gameplay purposes, have been available through products for the game itself.

This is pretty distasteful.

Unless you're somebody that wants to read it and wants the cards. So it's not for you. Seriously, what's with you people that live here? Not everything is made just for you and your collection! Besides, they already made an exclusive promo with the investigator book, and have had a lot of exclusives before. Why is everyone so surprised? Take it or leave it! "Distasteful" isn't a word meant for a product that you don't agree with.

Several full color glossy pages at the back.

The cards are the same quality as normal non-print-on-demand quality.

I think her weakness automatically replaces Searching for Izzy for me. That weakness has nearly killed me several times. I'm just not sure if I can bring myself to do it - her classic, signature weakness is just so **** thematic!

To say nothing of replacing the only "X" cost card in the game for a character who specializes in maximizing resources! That's why I think people's OCD is on THEM. These aren't better game pieces or anything. If it gets people to buy books and supports the art of writing I say go nuts with the Madison Avenue stuff! :D

Yes, thank you very much! Wow, I didn't know you could use ALL of an investigator's special cards. Now that know I may actually give it a go. It depends on how powerful that amulet is because that many weaknesses....wow. :)

For those of you interested in knowing who the next book is probably about, some people have reported receiving incorrect cards with their copies of Hour of the Huntress on the BGG forums.

They received alt art and replacement signature cards for Roland Banks instead of Jenny Barnes.

Then it's probably them because I've heard the same identity but from a different source. If it is, it looks like I might be buying two books! Follow this up with Wendy or Agnes and I may buy even more! Just sayin'..... ;)

Because this is false. Marie Lambeau was a preview, and it was promised that she would appear in a normal product at a later date when the book was announced. Mechanically distinct cards have not, as a matter of course, been released except for game products. It has happened in the past, but not for years, and for a now defunct game. Since then, every LCG card released by FFG has been in an LCG product or has been nothing more than alternate art.

So yes, there is very good reason to be surprised -- this is a departure from a long-standing norm in LCG production.

Normally I let this slide but your tone is demeaning at best so I felt the need to address something. First of all, do not say someone's OCD is "on them". That's no different than blaming someone for having depression or bipolar disorder. It is a serious condition that is no one's fault for suffering from, and they should not be made to feel differently. Secondly, while it can manifest as a pathological need for completionism, that usually isn't going to be the case and it rather make light of the disorder by calling such quirks or other A-type personality traits "OCD". I would invite you to do research on it outside of what is presented in TV shows and movies.

I have been playing Jenny with her original signature card & weakness, as well as these replacements. My Jenny is built more toward combat, her random basic weakness is also an enemy, so the extra enemy isn't too difficult for her to handle. I am looking forward to see if the book spawns more cards for the game!

I honestly really would like to purchase the book with the promo cards but can't seem to justify the cost.

I live outside the U.S and it looks like the hardcopy is only available through FFG. Shipping to the states costs about half the price of the book itself, shipping to my country costs twice the price of the book.

Anyone know any more cost effective options on purchasing the book along with it's promos?

Where do you live? Others have posted finding it in local bookstores or that local bookstores can at least order it and a more reasonable amount.

*whoosh* Way to miss the point. BD Flory and many others have explained it quite clearly why having cards outside the regular LCG products goes against what LCGs were about - remove the collectable aspect of a CCG. No chase cards/promos, no randomness, no 'haves and haves not'; that's what drew me to LCGs in the first place. Buy a pack each month and the occasional deluxe box and I'm set. Alt art is fine, great even (I still have access to the original so I'm not missing out mechanically), but alt mechanics? Nah, not cool. These chase promos muddy the waters.

Allready have there, Dr. Phil and I could care less what you "let slide." Your opinions as well as "invitations" mean less than nothing to me. It does not change what has Scientific support.

Obviously there's no point in me arguing with an arrogant idiot, and this isn't even the right forum, so I'll just leave this topic alone by wishing you good day.

Things are getting pretty nasty here. I think this is a valid discussion and is handy for people to see that there are two sides to this, so that people don't assume everyone thinks the way they do about the product.

I see great points on both sides. I don't think that FFG is going to change the product, but maybe they'll find a way to release the cards another way as well. As previously mentioned, I prefer to only pick up the ones that I intend to use (and I think the idea of an 'investigator expansion' is a cool one), but this discussion is clearly volatile for some players. Play nice friends. :)

To our friends across the pond(s)... I saw this product for order online at some places... Since FFG is part of Asmodee, I'm certain you'll be able to get it without paying exorbitant shipping fees from your local distributors.

It's like the Labyrinths of Lunacy, it will be released at some point for mass consumption.

I agree with @Soakman... this is a COOP game, let's have a COOP community.

The news post for Hour of the Huntress does say that the five cards are exclusive to the novella, but I suppose if they released Green Man Medallion and Sacrificial Beast with alternative art that might be one way around it. If FFG release the exact same cards some other way I would think that they risk annoying a second group of people!

From what I gathered at Arkham Nights (and perhaps it was even from Matt Newman in the Card Council discussions which I was part of and hopefully it doesn't break my NDA to mention it here), this was a way to implement an idea that the designers had to introduce alternate cards into the card game and story.

My view in it is, Arkham Horror: the Card Game is a pick your adventure story, and this line of novellas adds story to the game with a little taste of added rules crunch (or cardpool, if you will).

I stopped playing magic and other collectible card games because I didn't want to spend half my paycheck every week chasing down rares and promos. I loved the LCG format when I first heard about it.

But...Not only have they released mechanically different cards with these books, but there were some mechanically different cards released at Arkham nights too. While I would have LOVED to attend, I unfortunately live a few thousand miles away from where the event was held. I fear these things are going to create a predatory secondary market on eBay, which really sucks for this game and community. Granted i don't NEED these promo cards, but in all reality I don't need anything in this game. I love the game though and I would like to have every option available to me when I play, but that's looking like it's going to be more difficult in the long term now. The closer the game moves towards a CCG, the less likely I'll be to stick with it. So Im hoping this is as far as it goes.

By 'mechanically different cards' released at Arkham Nights, I assume you mean the two player created cards, The Council's Coffers & The Thirteenth Vision? Those cards were PoD Beta cards which will go through playtesting, possibly modified, and be released in a future expansion.

That would be great news if they were to be released to the general public. They were recently selling for $130 on eBay.

That was 100% the intent. FFG frequently has players design cards, usually for winning a worlds championship.

That being said, its hard to win a championship in a coop.

The cards that we received at Arkham Nights say 'Beta' across the bottom and will be released in a future expansion. My group was told that the cards would not appear in the Path to Carcosa cycle, or the cycle after it, but probably the cycle after that one.

as someone said... this is a a cooperative game and forum, so, if someone post the promo cards somewhere they can be print for a personal use (I'd like to remake them in Italian with strange eons, like I did with marie Lambeau on BGG)

Is there any chance that FFG would, at some future point, just release all the alt cards as a PoD set? I can't make it to Arkham nights but would love to get the different versions and art cards.

I don't think so... they never made so with AH boardgame or Elder sign

I can do a high quality scan of them and email them to you. The files would be too big to post here.
