Looks like some a sweet alt art Jenny Barnes AND replacement signature cards!
Immediate buy. I was reading the announcement and my reaction went like this...
"Hmmm... a book... might be ok... I don't really need another book... pass... wait... new cards?... TAKE MY MONEY"
Immediately messaged my local store owner to order a copy. They could probably sell me just about anything if they include a handful of new cards. I really regret not ordering that big book and getting the promo investigator.
Ordered.
Honestly, Jenny is not a top contender for favorite investigator for me, but we should be able to narrow down who the next books will be about based on the investigators available to the LCG.
I want to see Sefina and Agnes and Lola.

I would expect the first five books to cover the first five investigators. Everyone who plays AH should have those. Not everyone who plays will have bought Dunwich Legacy... although they definitely should.

Fair point. I'm not overly fond of most of the starters just because they seem to be so old (to me) there're relatively few surprises waiting regarding their back story. Roland's story is meh. Daisy feels like she's been done to death. I'd be interested in Skids, Wendy, and Agnes though.
I would love to see more Hyperborea. Or get a better sense of who Wendy's family really is and why they've gone missing. Also, I want to know more about who Skids was BEFORE the jail cell.
Either way, I'll probably bite. That shipping cost sucks though. :/

On the other hand, now you can play Jenny without having Dunwich.

I agree. It will probably be non-Core investigators.
I hope Rex Jim and Lola have a novel. Also how much is this?
Not actually happy about this.
As a completionist collector with slight OCD (and I am not alone in this within this hobby) for a full set of cards I will need to buy all these books to get the unique cards. I do not like that sales angle at all.
Im happy the books are being done for those wanting and am happy with alt-art cards as they are great for collectors wanting the extra bit that doesnt affect gameplay. But content affecting gameplay being sold in an alternative product to the game itself, thats just not something I am pleased about at all.
Genuinely happy with the folks that are happy. But for me, this looks like a choice of non-complete collection or having to buy repeated books at $15 each just for a couple of cards. $15 for a couple of cards, not good.
I don't think I'd say this "affects gameplay". Your gameplay tomorrow will be the same as it was yesterday. There's nothing mandatory about the cards, it's not like you're paying for a new investigator because the core ones rotated out.
Yes, it is a new option, and as a completionist myself I can see the annoyance if you don't want the book. But it also doesn't seem all that bad, given that people are coming paying $50+ just for all art cards. Honestly, is much rather have these attached to a general release product than attached to a specific event that leaves me at the mercy of eBay.
Jenny is my favorite Investigator and so this is a must purchase for me.

I guess not everybody who is interested in a book about Jenny will play AH:TCG. I bet a number of people will be happy to sell the cards if they have no use for them.
Exclusive new cards attached to a book I don't have any desire to read. Not happy about this.

Yup. I would have happily paid $15 for (quality) alt arts of Jenny's suite of cards. One of the virtues of LCGs and FFG's handling of LCG promos is that they have, at least in recent history, offered only alternate art promos and preview cards rather than mechanically unique and exclusive promos. All of the cards in the game, for gameplay purposes, have been available through products for the game itself.
This is pretty distasteful.

To me it does affect gameplay because for deck building, "tomorrow" there will be cards available as options that were not available "yesterday" (I know not actually available tomorrow) so playing the game with the new cards would be a different play.
Mandatory depends on how you collect. For me, alt art is not mandatory but anything different for gameplay is. But then no card game purchases are strictly "mandatory" its a hobby.
Your points about eBay and events I do totally agree with! While I don't like the book method to get these, it's way better than unique event exclusives.
Alt arts and previews are good for this kind of thing but mechanically unique I'm just not happy about. I'm honestly disappointed in FFG for doing this as they have been so good in the past to be able to collect from.
Haven't yet decided what I am going to do. So far, I am leaning towards not buying these books but proxying the cards and having an incomplete collection (which I will be unhappy about and will be angry at FFG for) because I just cannot justify the cost of these books for a couple of cards.
This may seem petty to some/most but a slight OCD about completion isn't an easy thing to control.
Still disappointed
Edited by alexbobspoonshope some reseller is stripping the cards and cuts down delivery cost - ffg can keep the books for sure...
but i'd buy the cards for same amount if send by envelope...
just remembered the diablo novellas - oh boy... ![]()
if ffg used some famous writer license like anne rice - i'd buy the books w/o cards for $30! ![]()
cheers!
I like this; good on ffg for trying something different. If your brain itches for not 'having a complete set' that's your hang up. If you don't want the book donate it to a library.
I just hope they aren't limiting the cards to the first printing and that the cards are not print on demand quality as they do look different to regular cards.

Yeah, I'm just hoping the book is worth it. I will probably read them because I'm an avid reader, but I'd like quality pulp if possible. ![]()

So don’t buy the book and carry on.

Equally, if you like it, buy the book and carry on.

You would have a point, if you weren't one of the whiners. Especially after calling it " distasteful".
They're free to say they don't like the idea. Most of them even admitted it's because they are neurotically predisposed to collecting it all. That's fine, but you certainly do not have to as they are all alt cards or replacement cards (the 'original' cards are fine).
Just like any other card you don't have 2 of (only 1 core set for example), just proxy it. I know it's not as satisfying, but, then, you could just buy the books. Gift the book away, sell it on ebay, or try to read it. Maybe you'll like it.
Either way, you can say you don't like it. But it's only subjectively a problem, and I think we're all aware of that, unless FFG puts out new non-replacement player cards or brand new investigators etc that you won't eventually have access to with normal packs (or cards that render current investigators unplayable, which is pretty impossible).
This works for me. I would have bought the book anyway.
Someone mentioned ordering at a store. Is this a thing I can do? Neither amazon or Barnes and Noble have any listings. I would much rather buy this at a brick and mortar. Either a bookstore or a gamestore would be fine.

You can probably request a local game store order you a copy. I doubt you'll find many with stocked inventories of it (at least smaller stores) unless you request it.

That doesn't have anything to do with the point of my post, which was this: If you don't care to discuss it, no one is obliging you to do so.
Instead, I see you've decided to join the the thread entirely for the purpose of petty name-calling.
So, once again: ![]()
