How do you store your tiles?

By Rogue Dakotan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

With HOTE in hand I've finally outgrown my tile storage solution.

I used to just keep them sorted in a CD binder, in numerical order by set, with the larger tiles in a sperate container.

But now I've outgrown that and need a new solution.

Do most of you just use plastic baggies?

I might just fall back to that method since I mostly do skirmish anyway. I'm hardly ever actually needing my tiles to be super organized.

Badly.

I have my minis stored in plastic containers, with the big guys in a foam lines case.

I've kept boxes for Core, The Bespin Gambit, and Jabba's Realm. Currently, I have all tiles stores in my core box, while I use Jabba's Realm to store ongoing campaign items (such as the deployment card deck, my token container, threat dial, doors, etc) and TBG holds stuff that I won't use in the current campaign (skirmish stuff, rewards and class decks for items not in use, etc).

Tiles are stored pretty much loose, unless they're 2x2 or smaller. Those go in bags sorted by expansion.

When HotE comes out, I plan on storing all Core tiles in its box. That way, they'll be a little easier to find, since they tend to get the most overall use.

So, in other words, what @naitsirk said. :P

I've got all my core tiles in one box and all of my expansion tiles in another. It's not great, but I've played enough that I'm getting pretty good at puzzling together the maps now.

I've thought about going to other systems (like your CD binder) but I'm not sure it would actually speed things up at this point - I almost think it's easier to just look for the right-shaped tile in a pile than it would be to flip pages or have to check the numbers.

I don't open the cardboard at all. I have all tokens in plastik and all maps in PVC.

I store the core tiles in the RtH box, the rest are stored by sets in separate bags in the Jabba's Realm box. You always need tiles from at most two sets.

I got tired of carrying around so much tiles and bothering with storage solutions, so I just printed every map there is. Most of them are for campaign (everything up to HotE) and few for skirmish.

I created a storing binder with plastic sheetholder (the ones with holes), using cutters and a welding iron (for electronic works) to weld the plastic in size-appropriate pockets.

I lay out the tiles in numerical order (first all core, then set by set) on thin sheet-sized pieces of cardboard. I draw the appropriate pockets i will needz and i then proceed to cut/weld the plastic in the calculated shapes.

I then identify all pockets with sticky notes that are then taped shut on the plastic. Every tiles has its own pocket; no exception, and i allow number scrambling only within the same sheet (so #17 may be above #16, but never in a sheet before).

Took me about 3 hours of work to do the entire thing for the Core Set + Hoth, with a budget of about 10$, with plenty of leftover material for more tiles.

I then bought a quality zipping binder to store the sheets so the tiles dont accidentally drop out during transit.

I'm incredibly curious to hear how you store that? Would you mind sharing any pictures?

That sounds pretty neat. I am using a butchered old case-logic CD storage wallet that once held a preposterous number of CDs. I have numbered pockets for each tile, by expansion. It makes setting up the mission much quicker, but slower to put away :P

How much did that run you?

Where did you find images for the campaign maps? I've only found printable maps for skirmish.

I keep mine in ziplocks. Large tiles in a gallon bag, small tiles in a sandwich bag. Bags labeled with expansion, and number range of tiles within. HotE has maxed out, but all tiles fit in the RtH box at present.

I can post them when I get home. I store them in a big folder. For gaming sessions I just pick an appropriate map or maps and off we go.

1.90 € per two maps. But that's over a period of year and a half so it didn't feel expensive.

I used AutoCad where I cut Ibsh's great maps then put them back together as mission maps. And where needed, I scanned missing tiles. For Jabba's realm I also cut and used nickv2002 scans.

Yhea.. slower to put away, if your previous method was to just lump everything in the box ;)

I have only the core, so far, with Jabba's Realm incoming; I built a foam core storage system in the core box, which holds all the minis, tokens, and has a specific tray for the map tiles, and I'm planning to do something similar for Jabba, though I don't think I'll need to set aside storage for quite as many tokens or cards in the Jabba box, as those will probably just get lumped in with the same type of material in the core set. So far, the only things stored outside of the box are deployment cards and expansion mission rules, which are in a binder together.

I figured that sheet protectors offered a good way to store the mission/rule sheets in a way they can be read and I don't keep abusing the fold lines and eventually causing them to fall apart...

I am trying to find a solution to your issue as well. Right now, I have the Core tiles in the Core box (along with every card sorted by type, dice, character sheets, and a lot of empty space) and every expansion tile set inside the Return to Hoth box. I'm thinking of repurposing the Core box into the sole location of each tile set contained in labeled gallon ziplock bags, and non-miniature storage for the cards and dice. The miniatures are kept in a display case.

Would you be willing to share the files?

If 64dpi is acceptable (should be if you print on paper), download the Vassal IA Campaign module and the associated save file. The save file has all of the maps, so if you remove the figures and tokens you can just save the screen, crop, print, and be done.

An update for wave 10 expected next week.

I can certainly try. ? When I get home tomorrow.

Did you mean .dwg files or finished maps? I think I once tried making pdfs, and they are pretty good. Dunno about jpg. The maps were always meant to be printed and the quality is really good cos Ibsh's scans are just superb.

I mean finished maps.

It looks like this ...

And most of the maps are double-sided to save up on space.

I use several zip-lock / seal baggies, stored in my core box

I sort them into:
(e.g. Core set:)
1-10
11-20
21-30
31-40

Then chuck them all into a bigger one (with a couple of the bigger pieces that wouldn’t fit in the other bags). So each expansion goes into its own big bag, to keep them separate).

Really helps speed up build and break down times.
