CCG cards possible in LCG

By Togashi Kugeli, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Hi

I started playing Legend of the Five Rings in 1995 at little game store in Cypress, CA called "Gamer's Guild,"

I know this is totally LCG game mechanics, but maybe some old CCG cards might work with a few changes.

We can just all dream it may happen. Sorry it has been years try remember card text, plus my tweeks for LCG

Imperial ed & Shadowlands exp.

"Enough talk!" Automatic enter a duel to negate any one honor loss. Winner gains one honor ( Maybe use political stat)

"Prepare to dig 2 graves," - Reaction: Target a personality in battle that won causing loss of province. Until the end of game when your character opposes that personality battle gain +2F/2P bonus

"Poison Weapon," reaction: After duel dial revealed reduce total result -3 Lose 4 honor.

"Togashi Hoshi," Man beast Dragon (His father Yokuni is one Original Kami (eternal dragon) Where do you think magic tatto for monks. " Kami blood."

"Avoid Fate," reaction to a event, the event does not occur now. The event is replaced next action card in coquest deck. Shuffle event card back into deck.

"Ninja Shapeshifter" - ability to copy ONE abilty Force, Political, action, Trait or honor you control.

"Investigation," - Reaction: Cancels effects of Kolat, Ninja, or Assassin for rest of the turn. The responsible family lose 3 honor

"Oath of Fealty," - one non alignied personality becomes part of your clan the rest of the game & gains +1F/1P

Post your wants...

I think if they were going to bring back directly inspired versions of old cards, I would love to see Focus redone for the new game.

That card is an icon of the old game.

Also Sneak Attack :P

Yes yes and yes to these.

Enough Talk would be a great POL duel. I wonder if it should work on bids, rings, or just card effects.

Poisoned Weapon should be - Interrupted: When you would reveal bids in a duel give target personality -3 MIL, if their MIL is now 0 discard them from play.

Ninja Shapeshifter - There were a few different types of shapeshifters in the old game. I would love the one where they become a copy of a character that was in a province that was destroyed. This should be like "clan champion" status card of the ninja / shinobi card types. Maybe even save it for when Shosuro is back.

Other card I would really like to see -

Iaijutsu Challenge. Have this be a duel that uses MIL + Glory. The duel can be refused. Honor the winner. If you refused, dishonor the challenged character.

I'm sort of surprised we haven't seen Sneak Attack yet. It is easily within the design space and doesn't seem that broken as a neutral conflict card

Reaction : After the Defender Declares participating characters - Attacker has the first opportunity to take an action in this conflict.

You can't see it, but, I'm giving that card the finger right now.

May you rot in Jigoku for all eternity for suggesting such a thing. :P

That seems very powerful. Does the number on the dueling dial add to the stat technically?

Because with current cardpool filled with so many printed soft effects and without RoL/RoP this card would be coaster (just like fe in Ivory).

Fair enough. I figured they'd add it eventually since it does something vaguely interesting but isn't super relevant most of the time.

I am being totally objective without and ounce of self interest when I say:

Night Battle

I also look forward to the return of the Black Scrolls!

I dunno, there are some relevant effects that you might want to resolve first as the attacker. Kisada Sneak Attack to take first action, cancel the opponent's first action, and then take another action could be pretty rough.

I was really expecting a Sneak Attack kind of card at some point early in the game.

IMHO there's not enough. In CCG simple bowing or send home was so much powerfull, especially against single attrition defenders, to make Sneak Attack useful. Not to mention Sneak + kill. In new game for most of time it doesn't matter, you can play most of your actions in random order, from bowed guys, even from home, or without single Character in conflict. So, as i suppose, SA would be too much situational card.

As an interrupt it would happen before dials are actually revealed. -3 is probably strong, but -2 would be on par with other removals. Poisoned Weapon was powerful because it could just be a duel debuff, but can also just kill someone.

It's the kill. it'd have to be at least a 2 fate weapon. at -3mil that's a lot of characters it can target.

Though since it doesn't initiate the duel, it does limit it's uses.

All and all I'd hate to balance the card for the game.

I still dunno. Even some sort of pump that puts you out of range of what the defender's first play would have been can result in a big enough swing to win a key battle. Sneak -> Rout against a line defender at Shameful Display could turn a losing battle into a winning one.

I get the your point about SA in the old game removing presence and/or location requirement was more impactful, I still think that option of acting first as the attacker would be good enough in the new game.

Really there is no downside to including Sneak Attack if it is a Neutral card. People will use it or not and I guarantee we will see cards that are total coasters along the way that could have been SA instead.

SA would be useful against Shameful Display, Mori Kuroi, and Crane Stronghold. You could get in an important action before these crazy powerful effects can resolve.

Jimen's Decree

Cancel the next event played this turn.

That would be interesting if it would simply cancel the next event played for the turn... Doesn't care which player does it, or during which conflict, or even between conflict. Whatever the next event is, its cancelled lol.

Designer Wins?

Shiro Kitsuki?
