4 clawdite figures but 3 cards?

This doesn't explain the mismatch between 4 Clawdite figures and 3 Clawdite deployment cards. Regardless of whether you'd want to use 4, there's either too many figures, or not enough deployment cards.

Yeah, I totally goofed on that. Reading is hard sometimes. :)

What I actually think happened was that the Clawdite Shapeshifters had 2 units per group instead of 1 until very late. So then there would have been a situation like the Sentry Droids.

if there are 3 deployment cards for the riot troopers I would have thought to get enough models to field them all in one mission of campaign? here is a picture from the news article they released. bit of an odd one.

I tend to agree with @Collins here. The artwork included in the August 28 post by FFG, and included by Collins, here shows that the "official" image is 6 Riot Troopers and 2 Clawdites. The RtH pack had 6 Snowtroopers (and yeah, the Jet Troopers and Heavy Troopers were 4 - I know) so I think it's a packing error. My HotE box had 4 Riot Troopers and 4 Clawdites. So a mispack would be my guess for it.

*Edit* *Campaign Spoiler* - Okay, so I was a bad person and skimmed through the campaign setup groups, both Initial and Reserved, and there's a mission with 3 Clawdites as part of the setup. There are no missions with more than 2 Riot Troopers. So maybe 4 & 4 is correct after all. But weird, regardless.

Return to Hoth has two groups of Snowtroopers, Bespin Gambit has two groups of Wing Guards, Jabba's Realm has 2 groups of Jet Troopers, and Heart of the Empire has 2 groups of Riot Troopers.

HotE also has two groups of Sentry Droids. The core has 3 Imperial Officers and HotE has 3 Clawdite Shapeshifters. There's one bonus Clawdite in the box to make the total 16 figures. Weird, but apparently intended. Apart from the regular actual packing mistakes of having extra figures or missing figures.

The 4th doesn't seem to be a packing error, but without a deployment card its pretty useless. My guess is it just there to take the number of figures upto 16 to match the number in packing etc, maybe something changed in the design process, riot troopers were a group of three? You don't need more than 3 but they could have put an extra deployment card in, would it really hurt them? Skirmish players would still need to buy 2 boxes if they wanted to run the max number/elites (frankly don't think they are that good). As is you can do different paint jobs? But you only have three forms, or different for elite? Will have to think of something.

Honestly, it seems like a waste of a figure slot.

A figure that isn't intended to be used, and can't actually be used? Pointless.

I know a different figure for that 16th slot would've required a new mould, and playtesting, and additional cards.

Honestly, I'd actually prefer they come out and say; "actually, it's only 15 figures this time. Sorry"

As someone who supplies figures for my own and other people's lists (I often play against people who don't own anything), I'm happy to have the extra figure :-)

the extra figure probably costs almost nothing so it's not a big deal. I would rather have 5 troopers though because if I buy two then I have an extra unit of troopers I can field.

Wait for the two "extra" clawdites to shapshift into riot troopers and the count will be fine ;)

Shame about not having enough deployment cards for the figure, or the extra form required either...

Proxy!

Yeah, our local tourneys are super casual (because I run them ?). We proxy anything and everything as we only have one goal: fun (and winning those sweet weakened tokens).

They could be doing the Clawdites as an alternate arts tournament prize and possibly give out extra forms as well.

The one components picture just seems to have been done by someone who was a little confused. Nowhere else is it implied that we were getting 6 and 2.

In fact, at Gencon and whatever con it was announced at (was it Worlds?) I remember the correct components were displayed. In fact, I remember having this exact conversation then, of being a little perplexed as to why four clawdites were displayed.

It's a pretty weird design choice, but I think it's pretty clear it was not a mistake.

I just want to know how many riot troopers I'm supposed to have....

What if the Clawdite minis shapeshifted in transit?

It did, one is Zam Wessel now. You just have to make sure you paint her right.

(in fact, that's my idea for the Elite).

Now that is a missed opportunity. The fourth superfluous Clawdite could've been a unique deployment card.

Yeah, obviously it would require more testing for an additional deployment, but a non-canon Scum character to go with the Sorin, Kayn, Terro & Weiss characters we already have.

I kinda hope they'll add more Form cards later on. Not super likely though, unless they make a Zam Wessel pack that has maybe 1-2 new Form cards and a unique Clawdite Deployment card? Could be cool. Would add value to existing Clawdites and vice versa.

I would've liked at least 4 or 5 forms in the HotE box itself, but as it is I think it'll be unlikely we see more forms for the Clawdites at all.

I know this is weird, but it also kinda bugs me that all three forms start with the letter S.

I mean, Senator makes sense ( a lot of sense, I really like the theme and abilities of that form), and I can believe Streetrat. But Scout? Who would be like "Hmm, that's not the Clawdite I'm looking for, that's just a Scout ." :P

I just sent FFG a question about the figure count for what they have to say about this.

Below is the response I received from Asmodee customer support when I queried the box content, pointing out that there were not enough deployment cards for the figures and it was unusable.

Note: Thank you for reaching out! An extra Clawdite is included in your box. You have all of the correct pieces. Enjoy!”
