Chasing The Sun - Uni Spoiler

By L5RBr, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Yeah the talisman seems pretty better than chasing the sun.

You can change to earth province, gain one or more turns defending your stronghold or even in early turns use assassination and combo with endless plains to kill a big char.

Chasing the Sun (and Talisman of the Sun) don't allow Endless Plains to trigger, because the attack isn't redeclared (and the window for reacting to an attack being declared is over).

The rules say that you must declare an attack on an unbroken province. But doesn't say that a broken province can not be attacked iirc, it says that is can not be declared during the declaration subphase. If it's like that, we'll need some clarification also, this could lead to divert all attacks to already broken provinces.

Good point - I wonder if it will receive a clarification, or if the Unicorn can shift attacks to broken provinces in defense.

Chasing the Sun: Action: During a conflict in which you are the attacking player - move the contested ring to another eligible province and reveal it, if able. That province is now the attacked province.

Talisman of the Sun: Action: During a conflict in which you are the defending player, bow this attachment - move the contested ring to another eligible province and reveal it, if able. That province is now the attacked province.

The inclusion of the word eligible makes this pretty clear. If 'eligible' were not included, you would be able to move to any conflict. 'Eligible' clearly implies that the movement is restricted based on the eligibility rules for attacks on provinces. I.e. you wouldn't be able to move to a stronghold if you have not broken 3, and you would not be able to move to a broken province.

Isn't Endless Plains a reaction to being revealed?

No, it's a reaction to when an attack is declared.

It's like Endless plains was designed with the talisman in mind. :o

Hmm...now I want to try using Chasing the Sun against Unicorn players. Swing into Endless Plains, get them to break their own province to kill one of my characters, then switch conflict to another unbroken province to Charge! in (or use other shenanigans) and try to break a 2nd province in the same conflict.

That does seem like it would be fun, but Chasing the Sun is a Seeker card and I'm hoping Crab stays Keeper for the next year.
