I'm sure a lot of you already noticed yesterday, but I just saw this today and I'm pumped! I'm getting three each for sure and hope to have them painted up shortly after buying them! My 3 packs of crossbows will rain holy ****.

I want to run a 3x2 block of crossbowmen with Heartseeker. Sitting behind a spearman block or something fun. They could really do some damage.

Lance corporal lets them add a hit to their ranged attack, and forged in battle puts them at threat 4 on turns 6 7 and 8. That champion slot is pretty competitive.

I was looking at lance corporal, but I'm wondering if tempered steel is better since it won't claim the slot (since they can dial in a surge as well)

Lance Corporal is an exhaust too you know. So you get the same results for half the cost.

Just trying to gauge if these guys will be legal for Worlds. It's actually cutting it pretty close. If they hit stores next week they would make it in, but 2 weeks out misses just barely

I edited my response to explain the half cost for same results. And I think something like Tempered Steel, Forged in Battle, and Rank Discipline/Piercing strike would be a nice combo.

Crossbowmen aren't all that exciting to me. I think the main advantage they bring to the table is relatively cheap 3 threat. Probably wouldn't put more than Rank Discipline and Tempered Steel for 34 points.

After playing mostly Waiqar since the game has come out, and now Latari, you realize after awhile that Archers are typically a feast or famine kind of unit that come with a point premium

I don't think they are getting the Shield as Maro comes with it. Probably Bull Pennon too.

My FLGS told me the street date for Crossbowmen and DKs is 10/26/17 according to his distributor. Obviously this can change, but a pretty good tentative date, and sounds about right as far as a timeline for it getting out of "Shipping" status. That's 2 weeks from today and it's a Thursday and we know they like to release on Thursdays.

Derp. I saw it in the preview and for some reason though it came with Death Knights.

But anyway, these two units are a big deal (tm) to the state of the game between the Waiqar and Daqan. This will really put them on even footing with each other. It will be very interesting to see what lists are made in two weeks.

Granted, hes difficult to snipe since he has 4 armor and the unit has Protected so you need a mortal strike or 5 damage to kill him, which may be hard with one die showing an accuracy, but he can still be sniped nontheless.

Given that you can trade the champ for an effect that stacks with tempsteel, i'd trade him out for something else for that alone.
Lance Corp doesnt offer as much flexibility for the crossbows as he does spearmen. They dont have a +1def mod to turn white, dont really need the hit mod, they dont have a shift on the second dial, and their 1march/skill is already white. He would literally just be for the hit mod on ranged attacks, since he wouldnt be giving them any benefit by modding the surge to white in melee.

I want to put the Lance Corp in the spearman block in front of the heart-seeking crossbowmen. So they can tar-pit the target, and then you drill them with ranged damage. Sure you take some morale hits shooting your own men, but, small price to pay!

gonna go that route give the crossbowmen a relic bearer and heartseeker.

That way getting to them will almost require going through the spearmen. Yeah you sacrifice a little offense because you basically "wasted" a champion, but they will be firing behind a giant block fo spearmen...
