The C-ROC as Ace-hunter

By Kleeg005, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Local pub runs X-Wing on Wednesdays, and we've decided that first Wednesday of each month should be team Epic. Last night saw Scum vs Imperial, Double C-ROC and mini-swarms plus Aces vs 148 pt ordnance Raider and Aces. There was some poor flying on both sides, so it was definitely a learning experience. I kitted my C-ROC out as an Ace-hunter, while my fellow Scum Captain flew his as a more traditional support ship. We were both of us disappointed with our builds - me, because the Raider targeted my C-ROC and I couldn't get away fast enough to fulfill my function; him, because he ran over his own Ace whom he was meant to be supporting....

I would like to query you fine folks as to how you build your C-ROC. What do you think of this build? How do you handle being targeted by a gee-dee Raider? Given my inability to flee quickly enough - I messed up my approach to the fray, I admit - I am tempted to jettison the Supercharged Power Cells in favor of an Engine Booster. Supercharged allowed me to roll six dice, with Dengar rerolls, for a total of two hits, which were promptly evaded. So, a little sour on those. I did one-shot the Inquisitor, though, so it works in concept. I just need a tweak, eh?

Help me Forum-wan Kenobi.... Help me get my legitimate shipping concerns past the Imperial blockade.

Welcome to your average first game with epic ships!

But....yeah.

A C-ROC is an awesome ace-killer once you throw on Thug Droids, Dengar and Zuckuss. The question is, are you seeing enough aces to justify that investment to kill? If so, great - but generally I see epic lists featuring corvettes equipped as battleships and large numbers of generics. In theory you could build a pure-small-craft PS8 force and try to PS-kill large chunks of the enemy fleet, but I have to admit to never seeing such a force (I guess the most obvious would be a Royal Guard Squadron of 12 PS8 interceptors...).

There's nothing inherently wrong with the build, but it does fall foul of 'proper' capital ships (as you found)

Um. Explode, generally. Automated Protocols and a Breach Specialist are great investments for a capital ship slap-fight, but you compromise your ability to fight small ships.

Ultimately, the best way scum have to handle a corvette is missile boats - Jumpmasters, Vaksai and Scurrgs are nice and cheap and can pack a nasty quantity of torpedoes and missiles, and the crew and modifications to support them.

Present your opponent with a line of ordnance ships sighting up on him, and if he still choses to target the Worrt, hunker down behind reinforce and just be glad you'll take longer to kill point for point than most other things in your squad.
