Rebel Ordance: viable?

By Greebwahn, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Inspired by a recent thread, I came up with this combo. Of course, it won't be any use until the Sheathipede comes out. Does this seem competitive?

Fenn Rau

Swarm Tactics

M9-G8

Weapon's Engineer

Pulsed Ray Shield

Dutch Vander

TLT

EM

Plasma Torps

GC

Targeting Astromech

Gold Squadron Pilot

TLT

EM

Plasma Torps

GC

R3-A2

Here's the idea:

Fenn locks the others, giving them mini-predator as long as he's around. They slow roll up into the first engagement, focusing. Once the opponent has moved, hopefully they will be within Range 2-3 and, when Fenn finally moves, he coordinates Dutch into a TL which gives the GSP a TL. Then they can fire their torps (one at Fenn's PS 9) with a focus token, GC, and mini-predator modifications. Next round, if possible, they do the same, but if need be, they pull 4Ks. Targeting astromech gives Dutch a TL which gives the GSP a TL, they fire the other torps modified by the GC and mini-predator. In subsequent rounds, the Ys do TLT things, all of which will be modified by the mini-predator as long as Fenn sticks around, and the GSP can do some stressbotting just to frustrate people.

I like the idea but I think it will need some table time to really see if it will work.

Is this for casual games or for a tournament?

I'm looking forward to the Sheath as well :D

@Greebwahn - I do think Rebel ordnance is viable, but I don't think that list is. It's not high enough PS, has too many dependent parts and only has 2 relatively fragile ordnance carriers. I feel an ordnance strike needs to be able do at least one of the following:

  • Can reliably PS-nuke something off the board during the initial engagement before it fires
  • Eat enough damage that it can reliably survive the initial engagement along with delivering its ordnance
I don't think that list does either reliably . I do think that Fenn shuttle has potential, though.
For context, I won a small kit tourney (12 players or so) with this list, but it struggled against higher PS (PS10 Nym, PS11 Dengar). I lost to that during swiss, then was able to range the initial engagement better (and remember bombs!) during the cut to pull out the win. Even a simultaneous fire situation is going to be problematic...you can't have one of these guys dead (or any of your guys) after the initial engagement, because then you lack to guns to keep the pressure on.
