Kakita Yoshi

So Kakita Yoshi is spoiled, he is 2 MIL 6 POL...

Does this mean he can draw his sword now?

Yes. Even if he's somehow dragged into a military conflict, that ability of his still works. The Crane have gotten rather good cards previewed so far and no real duds so far.

A "No weapon items" would have been a nice nod to old canon. Maybe he isn't cursed in bizarro Rokugan!?

Crane is tough to beat currently. If they choose their role for the province strength, I can foresee many issues against them

Can someone give me a coles notes on his lore?

In Old5R Shiro Sano Kakita was cursed by a ornery Grandmaster of the Elements so that it's doors couldn't be closed lest any child born while the doors were closed could not bear arms or they would be destroyed by the Crane.

Yoshi was born during a Lion siege.

Who said he was drawing a sword? He likely knows some jiujutsu.

It could represent military acumen. You don't need to draw a sword to study strategy and be a general.

Or his entourage. A man of his status is nearly always accompanied by some Daidoji or Kakita Yojimbo's.

On a side note: Which personalities from the other clans will also have a favor discard mechanic?

My guess is Bayushi Kachiko for Scorpion and Akodo Kage for Lion.

I don't know who were the political masterminds pre-scorpion clan coup for the other clans.

Ide Tadaji for the Unicorn.

Yasuki Taka for the Crab?

some dragonfly for the Dragon????

You've got Yasuki Taka and Ide Tadaji. I couldn't say for Dragon or Phoenix.

Edit: Heh, ya beat me to it.

I would be surprised if all clans had discard interactions with the favor. I could see scorpion having a way to steal the favor, maybe Phoenix as well.

Biggest favor manipulators throughout history have been the Crane.

in o5r Crane: 48 cards, Scorpion 12, Phoenix 2 (crab have 4 btw, was a bit unexpected)

Woo! Go Kozan!

For completionist sake:

Lion:13

Unicorn: 6 (and mainly anti favor effects)

Spider: 4

Toturi: 4

Dragon: 3

Mantis: 1 (if you were the crane clan :P)

Naga:1

Ratlings, Brotherhood, Spirit: 0

Unaligned: 16

This card is properly bananas though. Not the first Crane to be so, but he takes the mick. The draw power is insane and would make him an auto include forever on its own, but he also has a massive blanket cost reduction? And isnt even balanced out by having no military skill? Definitely need to keep a Crane pile at the ready, theyre entirely bonkers.

On multiple threads here I mentioned my desire for an Imperial Faction, one where they print neutrals and then clan characters that all share the Imperial Keyword, so they could print a stronghold that makes them all share the same Imperial alignment to then become an "8th faction" in the game while they mechanically care about the having and using the Imperial Favor for advantage as a theme.

So far we now have a Unicorn Imperial, a neutral Imperial that cares about other Imperials, and a high cost Imperial Crane that cares immensely about having the Imperial Favor.

If we assume every clan gets an Imperial keyword character somewhere in this cycle, which I would think, then we are looking at 10 different personalities so far revealed and I'm willing to bet that Seppun Ishikawa will not be the only neutral Imperial being printed.

Suffice to say, I am getting quite excited for these developments, because I would ride the Imperial hype train all the way!

While I think that would be both cool, and a good way to add new factions, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate and rain on your parade a bit. The biggest problem I see with this is the role cards - especially when it comes to tournaments. There are only 10 possible roles, so they're limited in adding new clans. Now, there are ways around this - only the base 7 clans can play roles at all being the first one that comes to my mind. But, if they do add an Imperial (or Shadowlands, or whatever else) stronghold, they'll need to make a rules change as well for this.

Next problem is story prize / consideration. They'll now have to ensure there's something available if an Imperial wins a story prize. Again, not insurmountable, but each additional option does come with a cost, as we know from the AEG days.

Again, neither of these would block the idea in itself, but I hope FFG considers them and plans it out in advance. And like you, I'll keep an eye out for any such developments.

Imperials don't NEED a role, they could simply not have one and thus not be able to use Seeker or Keeper cards. Additionally, they could design their stronghold with different fate production, starting honor, or influence to compensate. Its all open design space.

As for story prizes, the only real story prize we have seen was a group vote by players on a choice the emperor had to make, it didn't matter if they were dragon players or Phoenix players or lion players, it was just a yes/no vote where clans only mattered in tie breakers. The same probably will be the case with the Shogun's choice at Worlds where they might be given a choice of one of how many pre made options, regardless of the clan. I doubt you ever will have such open ended prizes where playing any faction in particular would fundamentally change the reward or throw a curve ball. FFG has shown that they wish to keep their story close to their chest and build prizes based on story paths they have already planned for, not just for whatever the player decides is cool.

Yeah, that ability is crazy. Reduce the cost of each event by 2... I feel like Kakita Yoshi is going to be a big player in Crane decks for some time to come...

I can only hope Kachiko and Hitomi are equally impressive...

He is balanced by costing as much as a clan champion. And his ability does nothing if you don't have the favor.

Fingers crossed brother.

Thing is though, I can't really think of any Crane cards right now that even cost 2 lol. Or very many actions at that price range at all. But yeah, he's a value monster for like, no reason.

Maybe because his reduction ability is more focused on his Imperial status instead of just crane? ;)

Also, he makes Consumed by Five Fires REALLY SCARY.

Also, an Imperial Crab Holding.

Thinking about it.....2/6 and 3 glory.

If you want the imperial favor, it will be tough if you put him in a conflict and he gets bowed. You already spent a lot of resources on him. If you hold him back, you don't get the 6 POL and you can't use his ability.

Not as strong as a thought, but still good. He probably can't trigger it every time he is on the field, unless you set it up properly.
