You’re not really helping things by being a pedantic jerk in every post. You’re fine with it. Thats ******* great. But not everyone is nor will be. And that’s fine too. You can allow others to disagree and not belittle them for it. I get that is a foreign concept for many but it is possible. Your attitude will do more to hurt the game than anything else.

Let me get this straight...........someone comes in here with a completely subjective opinion about how this accelerated release will impact the future of the game, with no facts to back it up, I call them out and get some lame response, from someone completely different, attempting to call me a fake news guy, as if his opinion is somehow fact, I turn it aside, rather nicely I might add :) .................and somehow you see fit to call me the pedantic jerk in all this?

That's rich!

Especially the part where you say "You can allow others to disagree and not belittle them for it. I get that is a foreign concept for many but it is possible" while doing the same thing. So you're including yourself in the "many" that it's a foreign concept for and speaking from experience then? I mean you'd have to be doing that and not blatantly be trying to reveal yourself as a hypocrite.

If calling out people who are posting utter nonsense about how the are going Jerry Mcquire on L5R and taking the moral high ground by quitting and now so........."Who's coming with me?" somehow deters more people like that from playing, then, honestly, I'm glad. This guy could have simply posted his three cores on ebay and left well alone. Be he chose to create an account just to post this garbage thread. My only offense is feeding the trolls. If you want to be the advocate for trolls like this, then more power to you. Good Luck!

They were failing long before the split.

Warhammer Quest, failing? You sure about that?

Personally, I couldn't be more excited about having a bigger card base. I've played several LCGs and while I love the business model, I wish the cards were released a bit faster. This will be huge in getting the meta past the core only environment. 20 cards a month is a slow drip of content for a just launched game. We need a flood of cards to keep the meta evolving, then we can slow down to a normal release schedule.

And like other have mentioned, this makes it even more viable to only buy 1-2 cores. If we had to wait 6 months for the full cycle, people would definitely be less competitive by not having 3 cores. This move will open up the game to more casual players and keep the competitive scene fresh. Kudos to FFG for making sure this game gets the launch it deserves.

The price doesn't really bother me that much, mostly because my LGS did a buy 2 get 3 promo for the core sets* and Ixalan sux so that's one money sink less, but still... It definatly feels like they are putting the presure on you.

* can you tell the staff are into L5R, to? :)

Not quitting at all. Happy to see a card infusion as we go into the Kotei season. Ill put off other buys, rework my budget, and enjoy it.

No but they did plan this and kept it under wraps until they had the money, so more than a bit rude.

FFG rarely announces the next thing before the first thing is released. they give products time to shine on the shelf instead of distracting players with new stuff.

Anyone that is quitting, please sell your cores on eBay. We need about 50 more in my area alone. ?

I was worried b/c I pre-ordered 3 through my store, but got 2 early at gencon. The extra 2 I didn't need were sold before I left the store...

I own a shop, and I guarantee you the larger barrier was a stale game due to low variety. If you don't get a game with enough variety early while the excitement is still there, those same people will move on to the next shiny thing.

I would rather do it this way, and have a really cool launch followed by evolutions of an exciting game for a large player base, than 6 months of stale same-same play leading to a great game with no players left. Yup, it's a bit more expensive. Nope, still not even remotely in the realm of a CCG.

Even the story mode, co-op LCG get some type of a boost via POD decks to spice things up early. Arkham got 2, and LorR got several extra shots of love too.

I realized just a moment ago that I'm really glad they are doing this - all of the new seeker / keeper role cards for every clan will be out in short order. This means the clans know much better what is at stake when selecting roles, and no one will be blind sided by an awesome card they couldn't use because no one knew about it.

Meh. So I eat pasta two nights a week instead of one, and cut back to 1 beer after work each day instead of two to fit the accelerated release into my budget. Big whoop.

I think FFG is just reacting to the demands of the community. Is it for money? Heck yeah! But they're a business, not a charity. If we, the community hadn't gobbled up product like sharks in a feeding frenzy they probably would have stuck to the normal release model. Shame on FFG for giving into our demand for their products!

Now let's not get crazy over this!

I'm not cutting the post-dinner whiskey or wine though!

I am definitely not quitting. I’ve been playing L5R exclusively for a month now and will continue to do so through worlds. It will be nice to get a quick infusion of new cards after playing all those games with just 3 cores.

One thing for people with the ones jerk reaction.

The opening events.

Imperial summons and way of the ring. If you read that which is the intro event does state you make decks using 2 or 3 cores. As this is the initial events for people getting into the game the fact it doesn't mention the cycle cards can easily be interpretated as they aren't being used. The cycle cards are for people who want more options and this will increase deck construction a lot.

While it's a shock to get them so fast you are not forced to buy them all at once and 3 cores is plenty to run good decks for nkmow. Even 2 cores runs good decks too

Good of you to announce yourself to us.

Good to see you still got it!

It is a good thing FFG did such an awesome job cleaning up all the most dated aspects of L5R. Their attention to detail down to the stelar components, Learn to Play, free Living Rules, etc. AMAZING! I am no fan boy of FFG, in fact I rage hate some of their most popular games. However, I follow the work and the work here is stellar. Hold on, this has not been off topic. My point is that without all the above I would probably be posting about how I am disappointed at the limited card pool. There simply are not enough cards right now so conflict decks are all 50% the same and Dynasty is almost everything thrown in. Netrunner at launch had 7 factions of 50 cards each while L5R is 7 with 80 cards each. We need more cards infused into the environment FAST. Think on this Samurais, i f people were still playing with x3 core + 1 dynasty pack 2 months from now would they be complaining about not enough cards?
In case I was not clear: All in.

I hope everyone who quits has fun playing some other game where you can get a full set of every card in the core set AND expansion for under $200....spread out over 3 months.

(not to mention you don't need all of them to be competitive...)

When it was first announced i thought 'wow bold move... i dig it' yes it is sudden but also for those that played the other LCGs will know. When it takes too long for certain factions to catch up it gets stale quick. This will give a healthy dose of cards also as others have said you don't need every pack just see what cards interest you and buy the pack or the singles. All else fails wait a week or two black friday is right around the corner just look for it on the net when a sale pops up.

Huh? FFG announces new things before the first thing is out all the time. Heck, even the cycle that we're talking about in this thread was announced before the core game was out.

There are plenty of viable counter arguments to the post you were replying to, but "FFG rarely announces the next thing before the first thing is released" isn't one of them.

L5R seems to reward playing skills because the mechanics are very nuanced. Im sure people with 3 cores can stay competitive for awhile by choosing one of the strongest decks that come out of that particular meta. The upside is that they dont have to face those same decks all the time for months to come because some people will buy the whole first cycle right away and create a more diverse meta for everyone to thrive in.

FFG is taking a bold step in evolving the LCG model, probably to see if it can be brought up to the same level as the successful CCGs. I prefer the LCG concept by a mile, but those games have had a limited lifespan so far. Time will tell if this works out, but I think the experiment is worth it.

This. I think the history of LCG is highly succesful from an economical point of view for FFG, but clearly they don't seem to be "built to last", with the only exception of Netrunner that had to go through a "reset" of sort to stay afloat.

I don't have FFG's data to make a serious analysis on the market trend, but I think that a more aggressive release plan (with boxes instead of multiple packs spread over months) and cycling of the sets would keep the meta alive, the entry-cost barrier low and the game healthier overall. This 6-6 move seems to go in that direction.

Exactly this. :D

You know... You can still buy six packs over six months. No one is saying you have to buy everything at once.

My problem is selling this to my group. We have a history of getting into a new game and it disappearing fast when 1 or 2 people dump ALL the cash in.

So far I have 1 core and have managed to demo the game to 2 people.

they do follow ffg though and know the news. I can hear them now with the price gouging complaints. This game won't grow now in my group because of the announcement.

It's like the RPG. We like and have played 1st to 4th edition. However another specialised dice game!!!!! turns us right of because we have to buy more dice (the app is a no go for us) and we cannot get them in any style bar the official one. I doubt we will play 5th and that will be sad.

Now I can understand the need for a good competitive environment and so understand the way they have done this. I think it would have been more palatable to casuals though if they had released this cycle as 7 Clan packs to enlarge the pool. That way you don't feel the need to buy it all @ £35 per core and £20~ a booster (for 6 Clan cards and neutrals) for us non torniment players.
