Well, my Nym doesn’t use EM. I find one missile to be enough. Can’t honestly say I’ve come across more than one Miranda with a torp.
Missiles favored over Torpedoes?

Of course not, because we‘re talking about a hypothetical new powercreeped broken torpedo.
For the random rebels with empty torp slots they don't even need to create a new torp. Just create a title or modification that reduces torp point costs. Something like "Ordinance Refit - Modification - 1 Point - X Wing Only, Reduce the points cost of secondary Torpedo weapons by 3 points to a minimum of 0". Suddenly nearly all the available torps are viable on the X wings.
I wouldn't consider the Decimator not having access to be a big loss, even if its a busted as heck torpedo. It just doesn't fit what the decimator does.
We're really just best off forgetting that the decimator has a torp and a bomb slot.

Or a "Squadron" title that removes the 'spend TL' requirement when firing torps.

YOU are talking about a power creeped torpedo that’s even more OP than harpoon. All some of us are asking for is a torpedo that doesn’t spend its TL. OP just asked for a NEW torpedo, not even specifics. I’d be happy with a 4 die, range 2-3 that didn’t spend the TL and did nothing else
I hope we get a new Torp soon, but I also hope it will be range 2-3 so Fenn Rau Fearlessness is not broken
I feel like torpedoes are intended to be more powerful than missiles, but I always find myself using missiles over torps when I choose to use ordnance. I'm not exactly sure what it is that sways me to missiles, but do I agree that maybe the prevalence of the JM5K has stiffled FFG's torpedo designs, and that's why we're seeing more missiles lately.
It could also be that there are a lot of missile platforms (A-wings, TIE Adv./proto, Z-95's etc) that could all do with some additional avenues for higher damage output, when compared to their torpedo platform counterparts. I personally have had the cruise missiles stapled to my A-wings since their release as I have found it's finally a decent damage option for them.
I'd like to see a new torpedo added to the game that operates similarly to a proton bomb. Something like this;
Striker Torpedo (2pts) - 3 attack - Range 1-2 - [Attack] Target lock - Discard this card to perform this attack. If this attack hits, the defender suffers 1 face-up damage card, then cancel all dice results.

Because the 4dice range2-3 keep TL missile came in the form of harpoons with three additional effects!

And yet we ALSO have a 4 die homing missile with 1 extra effect instead of 3, and a potential 5 die cruise missile that came out only a short time before harpoon.
We have good Torpedoes at the moment! And like someone said, we have godly ships with torpedo slots!
I would like to see counter against ordnance before getting too many new of them!

We have 2 ships that use torpedoes effectively. We have a helluva lot more with torpedo slots that never get used.

Miranda?
Scurrg?
Fenn?
Decimator?
Jess? These are all pilots from the top 20, and they are extremely overrepresented in the top20 squadlists. And at least Miranda and Nym would definitely switch cruise, homing, harpoon or concussion missile for a better torpedo. The other three have the option if the torpedo is as good as a harpoon or even better - which is not unlikely given FFGs track record
You're very much overlooking that Extra Munitions has no missile-slot counterpart. So even if quality torpedoes existed, ships like Miranda and Nym would still be using that torp slot for Extra Munitions (unless some missile-slot equivalent was also made) ... but now we're into so much 'what-if' territory that it's a pretty meaningless discussion.

The K-wing has 2 torpedo slots, so it doesn't lose out on anything by taking a torpedo instead of a missile. The Scurrg would lose out on EM

We already see builds of Nym and Miranda with a missile and no EM. I don't understand why they would not swap that missile for a better torpedo

Not every new upgrade we get is massive power creep

Yes. But I'd bet you that at least one of the next three torpedo upgrades will be over the top. And the reference for this "over the top" is not a proton torpedo anymore

Agree! I would like to get something new torps of course, I am always happy to get new shenanigans to my collection! Cruise Missiles have had huge impact, they are almost too good, because it makes alpha strike so much nastier!
Questions is what type of a Torpedoes we are missing in the game at the moment?

Totally wrong about the bomb slot m8. I can't recall how many games I've managed to win because the opponent followed my RAC and forgot he's got an ion bomb on board. Some of the most spectacular examples included 40-50% of his points flying off the table or 2 of his main combatants landing on a rock. Even if he is aware of the bomb and tries not to give you the opportunity to use it, you're still ahead simply because he's forced to make suboptimal decisions. It's well worth the 2 points even if you end up not using it in half of the games.
As for the torp slot, you're right in that decimator works well enough without one and it usually doesn't want to face the enemy head on. That said, RAC is at his worst at R3, where he can't use his ability and the opponent gets an extra die. A cheap-yet-good torpedo might come in handy. There's usually at least one opportunity per match when you've got an opponent ahead of you at R3 and being able to add an extra red die and deny an extra green die could make quite a difference.
Shrug, what about a buzz droid torpedo? Only downside is it likely being scum only since they are the most likely to buy/scavenge them. Then again it’d likely be a token that requires a special action to remove while doing consistent hull damage.... hm I should make a thread about the concept!
