Knee-Jerk Reactions to HotE Skirmish Content (SPOILERZ)

My knee jerk reaction is that most of the new stuff is meh compared to what we saw in jabbas. I like the skirmish upgrades, I like the new walker, emperor and Asoka. The rest I'll wait and see but I haven't come up with anything magic

The clawdite looks like it could be very interesting to see in play...

I'm still worried about the longevity of the ATDP. I mean its basically a Massive sized IG 88 walking around with one extra health, which means it will be much easier to take down with line of sight problems for it. I really want it to do well though- I was just hoping for some sort of "massive vehicle" upgrade (for the small tank and the ATST in particular though)

First Impressions:

The Clawdites seem fun, but inefficient.

Vader and Han are great. Both on par with IG.

The Riot Troopers are amongst the most efficient Melee units so far. But that's the problem. They bring melee weapons to a gun fight.

I actually like both Sentries, but I think they need some serious testing to make a good statement.

The AT-DP is too slow.

And what about the Wookie??? Actually I tried him a few weeks back and he was worth the points in my mind. Now he'll be an efficient giver of the mighty stun as well.

I am interested in this model as well. Partly because all wookies are Hoth models. But also because motivated painters now have enough models to really make all-wookie armies if they want.

I've found the problem is that it depends on the map. Jabba's realm is really good for the AT-DP, as with an officer it can often move into a position where it can fire, and if you leave something out of position the AT-DP will make you pay. Other maps though, and it's kind of iffy. At 9 points though it's really cheap, and easily fits in a list with Jet Troopers.

That's true, I was mostly thinking of Nal Hutta as a struggle map for him. I do suppose alot of his value could be in distracting your opponent as well so other figures can run around and take out stuff or grab objectives. He's probably nice on Anchorhead too, but who knows what the new map will be like (hopefully geared to help slower and brawler type figs, and not ANOTHER 'grab this crate Hired Guns' type mission- which have been basically half the competitive missions for the last 3-4 months)

Yeah, Nal Hutta doesn't work well, which is so frustrating because the Jet Troopers do well there.

Run a riot trooper up and exposed. Go ahead and activate some of your big shots and take out my three point figure (I can reinforce) and your shots don't go against what I really want to keep alive later in the round. And your heavy hitter just went and maybe is out of position.

Oh and I've got other riot troopers to play a couple of "bodyguard" command cards with as well to keep my good stuff alive as you are forced to take shots at less important stuff.

And now my riot troopers are in your face. And you have to deal with them and suffer strain and weaken too.

Sounds good in theory. Don't know until we get some real results out there over time :)

The AT-DP with Palpatine is crazy, my opponent tried to take my AT-DP outwith IG88 and failed to kill it, i then activated the Walker, fired twice, he had only a Jawa to activate and passed, i activated Palpatine and used Emperor to have the Walker shoot again and then Palp used both his actions to use New Orders on the walker. He then activated the Jawa which could only shoot an eJet and i reactivated the Walker to kill off IG88 :)

nice combo! I would imagine we will see him using his Emperor ability with ranged figures and not so much as with Vader (as awesome as that is). BT-1 is probably another powerful figure to give a rainbow attack to. There's a few other leader cards that will work fine with the Emperor, and so with him and 1 or 2 officers in a list some of those cards will be coming out more often for sure.

New Orders is always a good trick. But it's a trick that also works with a 2 point Officer ...

Maybe I missed it in other threads, but I am still missing some info about HotE:

- What does the rubble token do from Drokkatta's ability?
- Are there pictures of the new maps? (I've seen some mission cards, but not the map layouts) Really interested to start the guessing which map will replace the Anchorhead Bar/Cantina map in the near future...

Rubble creates difficult terrain in addition to placing it with Demolish causes the on+adjacent figures to suffer damage.

RUBBLE said:

A space containing rubble is considered to be
difficult terrain, in addition to its other terrain
types. The effect of rubble does not stack with the
effect of preexisting difficult terrain.

That's one reason why the rubble tokens have a blue border.

i would have like something for the E-Web as well, when i look at the Elite version at 8 points and i compare it to the AT-DP which costs only 1 point more has 9 HP more and an extra dmg and can move and shoot it makes me sad

My knee-jerk reactions from some initial skirmish last night:

Han is Great. I give him the advantage over jLuke now for best Rebel figure

Chewie is Fun. Having the best friends in the galaxy on the table is good for the game.

eSentries were not as bad as I anticipated. They need a little more support than I would expect for a 10 point group, but mutlifire can spread some damage around in close quarters.

AT-DP is functional. Not overpowering, but I think it's going to help the Jet Troopers really shine.

Palpatine is fun, and can really cause problems if the opponent gets close.

Vader is a hammer. He's still slow to get around and needs some officer support, but you have to account for him.

Clawfites form is going to be pretty important. Putting the right form on at the right time will be tricky.

I played against Ahsoka, but the AT-DP took her out pretty quickly. Ahsoka/Maul/riot Troopers will be tested soon.

I played in a tournament today where I ran RGC, 2x eRiots, eJets, rOfficer, zillo, RBF. Ended up taking first place, and I must say that my mvp was the e-riots. they are tanky enough to not go down in a single hit and they can really lay the hurt down on to critical targets. I was the only imperial, so no other HOTE stuff got really played. Lots of chewie and solo. 1 maul and 2 ahsoka. I've been super dissapointed by ahsoka. I think that like the RGC she will require finesse and support.

eRiots are great, even the regulars aren't terrible

The sentries are a disappointment

AtDP is great

Drokatta, Han, Vader and are amazing.

Jarrod is poor as are the regular clawdites

eClawdites are going to be fun, but way too close range for their own good.

Chewie is still missing something.

Kotu Feralo is going to be great in some lists bit i dont know that she will replace Gideon or Hera. The power tokens are good, but it is hard to get enough of them.

More will come though. Boba fix is still coming.

I really wish this is true.

Insofar as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I agree that the contents of this box are nothing that I want to collect compared to the must-have Rancor & Gamorreans. However. My personal tastes aside, I continue to be impressed by the sheer amount of dollar value that FFG crams into it's boxed games and expansions. A lot of other companies would start trailing off and rest on their laurels. Not these guys, they just keep on cramming the content. I could see myself getting this box just because it has a walker for my imps to use in snow, good upgrade cards for Han & Chewie, gives me a new wookie figure for my rebels to use in snow, and because I could go really wild painting the shields of the riot troopers. I'm beginning to feel flooded with content. there is so much in these boxes that this is the first one I'm considering buying just to cherry-pick some skirmish units and then get rid of the map tiles, other figures, etc.

How come? Were people rushing her in ahead of everyone else and then she just gets focus fired upon by their whole list? Or does she not hit hard enough? I haven't gotten my copy of HotE in yet so haven't really tested her yet.

I am hoping we get duplicates of the Vader/Han/Chewie fixes in future clampacks. Even if they are spread across three of them, I just like the idea of making upgrades more widely available, in general.

Very unlikely considering they haven't done duplicates for anything except arguably the most inconic Star Wars soldiers ever(Stormtroopers) and even these are groups of units you could deploy multiples of so that makes sense. I'm not sure what FFG gains by adding the upgrades in with any other content.

@ryanjamal She doesn't give you much heath for her points(especially if you opt out of the block token and take movement instead) also her Force Jump gives her great movement but then leaves her pretty out in the open if she is taking a shot at anyone that is completely alone.

I'm thinking the Riot Troopers in combo with Terro's command card could make for a pretty devastating turn 2 for your opponent assuming you can get them into a good position. Other than that I'm having a hard time justifying bringing a set of them unless I already have 2 eJets in my list.

Vader two shot her (his normal attack and end of round attack) in both of the games they were in that I played. I see her potential and she can be great, but as with all melee figures, she requires more thought to be good than your average ranged character.
