Can you use your ability only on your allies or can you use it against your opponents too? In duels?

QuoteOnce per scene, when a character at range 0–3 makes a check, you may negate a number of [strife] results up to your school rank.
No restriction that it has to be a friendly character, so if you want to stop an opponent becoming enraged, or strip a character in fire stance of their bonus successes, go for it.
In a duel only the participants should really be considered in range of one another. At the same time, there's no explicit prohibition of someone intervening with abilities; consult your GM. My suggestion: probably, but it's also probably considered cheating - because it represents either physical intervention or shouted advice, both of which violate the intent of a formal duel.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if this applied since it didn’t spell it out that you could use it in any target.

I’m with you 100% on this one. I just want to confirm it before I laying out the rules for my game.
It’s no problem with the seasoned players but I need to point it out the dueling etiquette to the new players.
