I think it is quite a clever little check for keeping at least one fate around as protection. The more really nasty things that can be avoided by a re-roll, the more important fate management will be.
The Reaper
I am assuming you will be able to use a fate token (if you have one that is) when you roll a 1.
Does the Reaper have a starting space or does he just appear the first time a dice roll of 1 is thrown?
Does anything happen if you land on a space the reaper already occupies?
Can you use a fate to stop him from appearing?

I wish I could answer all your questions..but I am not allowed to.
All your wishes will come true soon enough with it comes out.

The reaper in my stocking, staring back at me.
Any rulebook for the Reaper?
I don't think you'll have too long to wait.
Any particular date?
Please
Funny, back in 3rd My buddy made a Angel of Death character with the Dice with Death feature. If I rolled more than you on 2d6 it's death for the character unless he has presveration. Strength 2 Craft 4 Starts at graveyard 1 gold. Killing characters when I landed on them was awesome but the drawback to the beefyness was I can only move 1 space a turn. Winning the game was terribly tough and I had a kill count of 17 in one game. Teleport was great but if I hit rotating room in the dragon's tower I was so hosed! It's funny how similar the expansion is.
Despite some complaints in this topic, I'm still excited for this expansion. Though I am probably more excited for the new adventure cards and characters then the reaper himself.
Me too. I think it is an interesting balance and can't wait to give it a try
Can anyone tell me who the 4 new characters ARE in the Reaper? I GOT mine today, but I received TWO Knight character cards!
I also have the Sage, the Dark Cultist and, of course, the Grim Reaper. Who am I missing?
I DID contact Customer Service via e-mail a few minutes ago and, based on past history, I KNOW things will be made right! Just wondering who this other person is that I have a plastic figure for...
The four characters are: Knight, Sage, Dark Cultist, and Merchant.
Dear Player,
The Reaper is contained in the first Talisman Expansion: The Reaper. It contains four new characters and the cards for those characters. Additionally, you receive The Reaper character card and the figure. The Reaper looks interesting, especially for gaming tournaments.
Does that help?

I rather like the Reaper and what it can do. Will hopefully balance out opinion for those who don't like Fate points. Also like what happens when you roll a 5.
I agree. At face value, some of the Reaper outcomes may seem overloaded to some people, but when you look at the big picture and how fate comes into play, this is actually adding some nice dynamics to the traditional game play of Talisman. I honestly didn't care too much for fate right off the bat, but as expansions add in more "nasty" components I can see it being fully realized and a way to balance the game, while adding more difficulty. There is some promise here with these mechanics, they will allow FFG to add in some really interesting things...I just hope they do it right and don't drop the ball with something that has great potential.
SO the Merchant is the one MIA from my set. THANKS!!!
Two Reaper movement scenarios:
So I got 'Toaded' at one point in the game. I'm only allowed to move one space per turn. We still played that I had to roll a die for movement, so that if it came up '1', the Reaper would move. (My toad still only moved one space, no matter the dice outcome)
We played the same way when 'Blizzard' came up, that the die was rolled to see if Reaper moved.
Is that correct?
We use a black die for the Grim Reaper and each player rolls it in addition to the normal die on his turn. If the black die comes up a 1, the player completes his turn, then rolls the black die again to move the Grim Reaper. The black die is rolled on each player's turn, regardless of his need to roll a move die for himself (Toaded, Poltergeisted, Inner Region, Teleported, etc.).
I assumed that you can re-roll the dice on the Reaper table.
3rd turn of the game one of the guys rolls a one for his movement. Rolls high enough so that the Reaper lands on me. I just groan and roll the dice. I roll a two and so being cute I say that I'm using fate to re-roll it. One of the guys I'm playing with says something along the lines of, "Lol he's going to roll a one".
I roll a one.
We have a good laugh as my Sorceress withers to dust. I draw the Elf and end up doing nothing important the whole game.

Great idea on the black die. Especially since I have one where the '1' is a skull face! It doubly works to show that it triggers the Reaper to move, plus, if you roll the dreaded 1 once its on you.
Time to scam it from my D&D dice bag and switch it to its new home.
I wanted to make also a Reaper expansion rating, but i could not find such a topic here on the forums..
From my conclusion:The Reaper expansion is slightly better than the Frostmarch expansion.
Here comes the Plus and minus points
+ Characters
+ Spells looking good
+ The artwork is awesome ( only the Chimera sucks, but still a good rating
+ Reasonable strong enemies. (It needs just a little more)
+ Reasonable events. ( a little more is welcome)
+ Dangerous events ( ( Just enough to reach the + rating ) But we need more !
+ For the New Reaper idea
-------------------------------------
- Less chances to get spells
- less chances to get toaded
- A little to much objects/magic objects
- Giant Spider adventure card lost his web ability
My rating for the Reaper expansion is:
7/ 10
The Reaper expansion is the best expansion (for the mainboard) at this moment.
You really need this expansion, if you want to draw more different cards. On top of that, the cards are looking good, and the balance is reasonable.
But with the positive things, are also the negative things. Magic objects/objects should be more decrease, to make way for events.
There is also less chances to get spells, or getting toaded, but that's the only negative factor from this expansion..
At least, it's better than the Frostmarch expansion

~Velhart~
I got my new painted Reaper today!
