I have seen half of these ships at my local barns and nobles for months. In fact everything you have listed is in stock less then 2 miles from me. :-p

Because paying even one point for an EPT slot that should have been there in the first place is just criminal. Not to mention bring a unique astromech.

You say it should have been there to start with. I say that 90% of the pilots that have EPTs shouldn't. The original concept of the game had very few pilots with an EPT. Just think if this was still in place today and how the game would change. If you took away the EPT from all except the top most pilot on the ship, and removed them completely from some ships, then we'd have a completely different game, based more on the pilot abilities and flying than combo shattering iWin list match ups.

Remove EPT from the game altogether. Or make them generic only.

Because the game developers went in a different direction. The real question is why does the generic Green Squadron get an EPT while Arvel doesn't? Arvel is Green Leader, so if the entire squadron gets EPTs, then shouldn't he have one?
I wouldn't remove the EPT from the game completely, but (imo) it's much more wide spread than it should be. Is it really an elite talent when almost everyone that seems playing time has access to the same talent? I would argue that the slot is too wide spread, and the costs associated with having the slot are under-represented. The main concern I would have would be if you're only availing it to the highest PS then you're doubling down on their effectivity, which again needs to be represented in the cost (either of the pilot or of the EPTs themselves). But now we're talking about a completely different game design. When they designed the core game, there was little intention of it catching off and expanding as it did, so when it did, they quickly tried to change their approach.
Out of the first wave we have Luke, Wedge, Vader, Stele, howly, Mithel, and Black Squadron Pilots with EPTs. That’s it. Two rebels. Four Imps and a generic. And just a handful of upgrades for the slot. I guess they wanted it to be pretty rare. Even wave 3 had Lambdas bereft of EPTs, and Wave 7 had the heavy bombing ships likewise lacking.
By the time we got the Toilet Bowl 5k all of its pilots are special enough to get EPTs. And dozens of EPTs to compete with one slot. Madness I tell you, pure madness.

Sounds like an interesting alternate format to me: "Elite-wing" where the pilot's abilities are what makes them really stand out from generics.

I like this idea but would go one higher, an alt format with 0 ept’s. That still leaves some op crews though. Ok so how about 0 crew and every crew slot counts to a points reduction on anything else the ship could take? **** screw it all and there are no cards period outside weapons. Might be fun to try.
