Gunner & Captain Rex Crew

By Schu81, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello everyone!

I am just not 100% sure of this game effect, because of the wording.

Does Gunner trigger BEFORE Captain Rex, so you're not getting a Focus for the second attack?

I am wondering because both cards seem to trigger at the same time (after you perform an attack that does not hit), but Gunner says "immediately" right after that.

The word "immediately" has no meaning in this game. It is flavor / reminder text, this is written down in the FAQ I think but can't remember exactly where right now. If you have both Gunner and Rex on the same ship you get to decide who happens first.

Edit - Found it, page 5 of FAQ near the bottom of the page. ""Immediately" Immediately is used as emphasis on some cards, it is purely reminder text and has no distinct game effect."

This is not correct. Per the attack timing chart, if you have gunner and rex on the same ship, Rex MUST happen first, or not at all. They happen in different steps of the chart; all non-attack abilities with the After Attacking/Defending timing happen, then all attack abilities.

So if for some reason you wanted to use Gunner THEN Rex (e.g. because you're gunnering someone who has a Hotshot Copilot and you don't want to use the focus), you can't.

OK, yep you got me on the last part of my original post. I was concentrating on his question about gunner having the word "immediately" in it and wasn't taking the timing chart into consideration.
