The Lost Realm - Help!

By Goodro, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi all,

This is my first forum post so bear with me!

I've got the LOTR Core Set and am pretty comfortable with the quests etc. after following Beorn's Path.

I've recently been gifted The Lost Realm Deluxe expansion and am keen to work my way through the quests as a solo player or by playing Two-handed, but am struggling on how to build the best deck with the new expansion cards.

The first quest, Intruders in Chetwood, has just one quest card needing 30 progress tokens, but the main tactic seems to be to engage as many enemies as you can each round, as highlighted in the new hero's abilities and responses, and keep them out of the staging area. Is this right??

This is new to me as i tend to try and get rid of enemies as and when they appear...

I'm also struggling with getting right balance between will power, attack and defense...

Any tips on this quest / deck build??

Thanks :)

This might help out a bit:

Keeping enemies engaged is the hallmark of the Dunedain deck, and Lost Realm has the initial cards that help support that deck type -- but that requires rock-solid repeatable defense and/or liberal amounts of Forest Snares; with core + Lost Realm I don't think you have the tools to support a Dunedain deck.

I would first see what cards you think can fit into your existing Beorn's Path decks and make them better, playing two-handed and/or easy mode if necessary to defeat the quest. As you try the new cards out with a deck you're already familiar with, it will give you a better idea whether the cards are actually useful, or just sit in your hand wishing you had a different card instead.

My decks descending from Beorn's Path (but using full card pool) still use three cards from Lost Realm -- Gather Information, Secret Vigil (sideboard), and Dunedain Hunter (sideboard).

Great, thanks for the tips @dalestephenson and @Stavo343

I'll let you know how i get on!

I write a blog series called Path Less Traveled in which I play later expansions with the help of just a Core Set. I have actually already covered The Lost Realm:

It's doable, but it's pretty hard. I recommend Easy Mode. You can hit up my blog posts for some deck ideas if you like. :)

That looks great @Authraw

Thank you!! :D
