Thought I'd try my hand at creating a character. I was already leaning towards a specific ancestry, and by luck that's what I got for one of my d10 rolls. I found this (along with answering the rest of the 20 Questions) really helped to build a character whose background is organically tied to the character sheet, rather than merely contrived to explain away the min-maxing of a build.
My character's parents made the ill-fated decision to name him for his honorable great-grandfather who fell in battle as a yojimbo, saving the life of his Inquisitor charge and slaying a powerful maho-tsukai. In the heat of the battle, the great-grandfather's precious wakizashi (a gift from his charge) was presumably lost, and was in fact stolen by the maho-tsukai's apprentice, who disappeared without a trace. The apprentice began using the wakizashi for profane sacrifices, tainting the weapon and anguishing the spirit of the great-grandfather, who was already restless from a sense of failure for not stopping the apprentice before his death. The great-grandfather's spirit began to haunt my character, though only his immediate family is aware of this fact. At the behest of both his family and ancestor's spirit, he followed in the spirit's footsteps and became an inquisitor yojimbo, and was assigned to Inquisitor Isawa Shizuka, a rising star among the inquisitor ranks who has shared her love of fine sake with her yojimbo.
