I tried to screenshot the capital ships and break them down from an Armada perspective. Lots more Star Destroyers than I expected.

I have the same problems with these as with every other new design in the new movies. For the untrained eye they are just the same as before. Thechnically I'm sure they are all two or three times bigger than their OT couterpart but visually it's just the same thing.
They even had the oportunity with the First Order Dreadnought. Unlike the Star Destroyers, Fighters, Transports, etc the Dreadnought has a role we have never seen before. An orbital platform ship that will be able to bombard a planet surface. And they just made another Star Destroyer with big guns.
yeahh for the Neb

Though to be fair, the franchise has been guilty of this for a long time.
Looking back at the ToR era ships, speeders, transports, fighters and so on...
Even recently in Rogue One... the hammerhead corvette was basically just revised from the SWToR model

'course you know this already lol but I'm just saying, it's not too surprising in my opinion.

Agreed, as I said in the video I still think FFG got the scale of the Republic Bomber wrong. It looks much closer to a GR75 in scale to me then a Fighter. It looks like a gun turret in the rear and a cockpit in the front. Based on the size of the turret and cockpit and how far away they are from each other these look like they need a fair sized crew, 10 maybe. That's where I get my scale anyway.
Edited by ThrindalAgreed on the scale about the Republic Bomber. Might not be flotilla size, but certainly as big as a YT1300.
The more I see it though, the more I actually like the First Order Dreadnaught.

I would say that those are not movies. I don't expect a game or a comic to make that much of an effort to think of new designs. And even then I would say the Ebon Hawk is not as similar to the Falcon as the Nebulon K is to the Nebulon B or the Resurgence to the ISD.
In the movies, the prequels made an effort of making the ships different. Even if they had similar roles, the N-1 is completely different from the X-Wing or the Droid Control ship from the Star Destroyer. You even have some of the coolest designs like the LAAT or the ATTE.
Even when a ship was supposed to feel like a predecesor of an original ship (like the Venator, the ARC-170 or the ETA-2) they made an effort of redesigning them as much as they could.
Here on the other hand... Poe X-Wing (which was virtually the same as the old X-Wing) now has a booster...

Actually the Corvette in R1 is another redesign of the Corvettes in Rebels. But in general your point stands. I didn't even know they came from SWTOR

The ebon, no.... definitely not, but the smuggler's ship from the ToR MMO...
well.... To me it looks like they just added 2 big blocky bits to the shape and moved on...
But aside from those examples, I suppose your point stands, the Prequels did do an outstanding job of adding original designs. On the other hand, the prequels are almost universally hated... (not particularly by me, I find them all at least "good", though EP II is definitely at the bottom of my watch list.)
As for the lack of originality in the new movies, wasn't that one of their selling points? The original cast, X-wings, Tie fighters... Empire vs Rebels... I guess I just don't find it surprising that they're using old designs.
That is the Thranta Corvette. There is an older version in KOTOR. The Hammerhead Cruiser

And there is an even older design on the Heir to the Empire:
Uuuuuh, NICE. Those designs look pretty cool, I barely remember the Kotor stuff, was soooo long ago.
I think you're onto something calling the "pod" ships escape pods. After all, we see Poe on one versus in an X-wing. Also we see his X-wing explode in another trailer.
They almost look to me like they are the "bumps" on the MonCal ship, Raddus.

That's exactly what I thought they looked like.

Love this ship, love this game
