Tattooed wanderer

By SavageTofu, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So... while tattooed wanderer from dragon is an attachment on a character...
1) can it be assassinated?
2) does the attached character also gain the stats? Tattooed wanderer has 2M & 1P. So does the attached character gain those stats or only the covert.
3) can you use Daimyo’s favor to reduce the cost of Tattooed wanderer?

If I have further questions where on here should I ask?

1) Assassination targets a character. Tattooed Wanderer is an attachment while it is attached to another character.

2) Rules Reference, under Attachments
If a character card is in play as an attachment, the skill values on that character-as-attachment are not treated as skill modifiers (as they lack the "+" or "-" symbol before the value)
for the character to which the card is attached.

3) Yes. Tattooed Wandered becomes an attachment as soon as you decide to play it that way.

Hopefully soon, FFG will open a Rules subforum here.
Until then, just create new thread/s for rules questions.
Would help if you added [Ruling wanted] or something similar to the subject line. :D

Will do. Thank you.

I thought stats wouldn’t transfer over... just the covert. The stats bar looked awfully close to regular attachments. I got confused. Thank you.

The main difference to look for is the +/- that precedes the stats on regular attachments.

That's because the stat modifiers on attachments are placed at the same height as the stats on characters. That way, when you put an attachment slightly to the left of its character, the modifiers align with the character's stats.

Yeah, when I'm playing "normal" attachments, I put them under and to the left. But when I play Dragon "followers", I put them under and down, so the text box shows. helps me stay unconfused.

The way you worded this, I just want to clarify that if you play Wanderer as a character, he does not have covert, just the 2/1 stats. I may have misunderstood you, and if so, I apologize.

Nope, I didn’t think that “while only a character”. No covert. Thank you.

I misread tattooed wanderer... I thought it read: You may play this character “as though” it was an attachment with the text: Attached character gains covert.

it reads differently: You may play this character as an attachment with the text: “Attached character gains covert.”

Thank you. I’m glad there are so many folks here far more observant than I...

To clarify, Tattooed Wanderer and Togashi Kazue retain both the Tattooed and Monk traits while they are in play as attachments. This allows whomever they are played on to be targeted by Ascetic Visionary's triggered ability, even if that character is itself not a monk.

Further rules clarifications on characters as attachments:

  • When they are in your deck, hand or discard pile, they are characters and not attachments. They cannot be targeted by an Agasha Swordsmith's ability to search the top 5 of your deck for an attachment.
  • Togashi Kazue is unique. If put into play as a character through a normal action, you can add fate to her. During the Dynasty Phase, no character in your hand can be put into play. However, while Kazue is in play as a character during the Dynasty Phase, as an action you can discard a copy of her from hand to add a fate on her just as you would with unique characters in one of your Provinces. You cannot do this if she is instead in play as an attachment.

They can also allow the use of the kiho 'Mantra of Fire' on a character that is not itself a Monk.

Darn it @Togashi Gao Shan! I was having a hard enough time whittling my conflict deck down to 40 cards. Now I have to put Mantra of Fire into my deck, because I hadn't picked up on that!
