Aggressive Imperial love

By Malabor, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Here's the list that I ran last week's league night (and have been running since).

"Advanced Agression" - 99 points

Tie Aggressor - Onyx Squadron w/ TLT, Homing missiles, and LWF (32 points)

"Double Edge" - trick shot, unguided rockets, TLT & LWF (29 points)

Darth Vader - VI, title, ATC, Cruise missiles, Engine upgrade (38 points)

I'm considering going with an autoblaster turret on one of the Aggressors but I'm not totally sold on it yet. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks!!

p.s. I tried to import it from 'yet another squad builder' but couldn't figure out how to make it work. :(

I don’t know why you would use Onyx Squadron when you could fit in a LT Kestal build for similar points. You have a lot of upgrade points sunk into a lame generic pilot.

•Lieutenant Kestal (32) - TIE Aggressor
Deadeye (1), Synced Turret (4), Cruise Missiles (3), Lightweight Frame (2)

I used Onyx to be able to fit a second TLT on the table. With so many 1 agility ships running around (NYMS!) I like being able to consistently damage them. Even if it does take forever. I tucked that Homing in there for two reasons. 1. Put some pain on those pesky Poe-Tensitys and 2. I only have one Cruise missile card at the moment.

I may slide Kestal in there and see how she does, though.

Kestal can fit TLT and still be under 33 points, just without a missile (except Tracers, but that wouldn’t help your list.) Missiles are tempting, but only if you’re sure you’ll get your investment back in the form of damage. Onxy isn’t insuring your investment.

The Homing Missile is a great card. The first reason you stated for choosing Homing Missile is sorely misplaced. If you manage to shoot Intensity Poe with Onyx Squadron’s Homing Missile, then the Rebel player is doing something wrong. Between repositioning and Black One, a good Poe player will never give you an opportunity for that missile to fire. With BB-8, Black One and an initiative bid (yours is weak) PS9 Poe Dameron should be discarding your target locks from Vader and Onyx every round, and will probably arc dodge you anyway.

As for your second reason: proxy. I doubt you’re using this list in a competitive setting. Proxy the cards you don’t have.

You may be on to something here. I played again last night (kept my list the same) and for the second time, never fired that missle. I'm thinking next week I'll swap out that Oxy for Kestle and see if she helps me out a little. I did manage to put a RAC-Lo w/ Inky list down to 1 hull each. It was a really fun game for both of us, but I just couldn't get enough shots through. No major flying errors or anything. Any thoughts on the swap of TLT for Autoblaster turret?

I'm also thinking about swapping out Vader. It's really nice having his ability and the ATC, but man..that dial can be really tricky to work with. If I were to swap him out, any suggestions on who might take his place?

Low PS carriers struggle to get ABT shots.

For the role of PS11 Alpha Strike, the only Imperial alternative is Quickdraw.

Word of caution: if you’re serious about playtesting a list, then avoid making multiple changes betweem games and try to play a few different matchups with the new version of your list before the next change. This is especially true if your game outcomes have narrow margins (win or lose.)

Right on, man. Thanks for the advice. I really enjoy playing this setup so far, so if I do any tweaking, I'll do it sparingly at first. Thanks again!
