What units do we know about / expect?

By Khyros, in Star Wars: Legion

So forgive me if this information already exists somewhere, I browsed both the news and the forums without much success. My understanding is that Legion is the Star Wars answer to 40k, or at least 40k-esque game play. As such, I would expect there to be troopers, speeders, speeder bikes, AT-STs, and probably AT-ATs. But I also expect there to be a ton of additional stuff as well. Alternatively though, perhaps it's more of a squadron based game with less vehicles.

So, the reason I'm asking is because I started into Armada because of the ships and how fun they are to light up. But I kinda regret starting as late as I did. So as Legion comes out, I want to know what are the chances of there being tons of vehicles that illuminating would look awesome on, or if it's primarily going to be squadron based like IA, which doesn't provide much to the lighting world.

Thanks guys!

In the TC demo video the designer names Snowspeeder och AT-ST as exempels of support(?) units.

So they are in my opinion confirmed. Other than that it is anyones guess. Might see some Clone Wars stuff on the rebel side?

We know there's going to be a smattering of infantry of course.

AT-RT, Speederbikes, and dudes with lightsabers are in the box.

AT-ST and airspeeder has been hinted, but not confirmed.

What more we get will be influenced by how big ffg wants to go.

To start with original trilogy units, so expect the movie featured stuff.... Probably followed by stuff featured in the games (see battlefront 1-2 and the rts games)

There is debate on the possibility of a sliding scaled/ full size at at, but it's debated on both size/cost/possible rebel counters.

I would like to see imperial commandos and Bothan spies. For vehicles I would like to see the TX-130 Saber -class fighter tank for the imperials and for the rebels I would like to see the WLO-5 speeder tank. However WAY ON DOWN THE LINE, I would love to see clone troopers and battle droids. Would like to run Clone troopers with a massive AT-TE. There is a lot of stuff FFG can do here, this should be a gold mine for them. I see FFG making mats and terrain for legion as well. If they don't they are missing out on a lot of cash.

Wanted to put in more info.

Im still in the design stages of my terrain. One of the most exciting things to me is the idea of lighting and effects on such a scenic type of game, so I'm planning to make a bunch of smoking ruins and burning vehicles as cover. This is pretty much what I'm thinking: Spikes bits link . I have an old Z95 model I made from clay that's been sitting in a box for the last 3 years, so that's definitely going to crash into my board (though I'm deciding if it will be a permanent part or a moveable, placeacle piece...). Thinking of a Scarif-based board, so it seems fitting! (...well, a smoking vehicle, since it isn't a crashed U-Wing...it kinda looks like an X-Wing...) Add the burning remains of the equipment they blew up at the start of the ground battle in Rogue One, maybe the wreckage of a speeder bike or an astromech droid...could be fun!

I'm also toying with the idea of lighting up other parts of my board: bunker doorways, equipment like vaporators or other technobabble equipment, noncombatant droids, that sort of thing. I may even dedicate a RaspberryPi to controlling various lighting effects...though that seems like overkill compared to the LED candles. My boss wants to give us some RaspberryPis for personal use, which come with the Google AIY kit, so I'm also considering trying to incorporate that...ideas? So far I'm considering playing music/effects through the speaker, but I prefer to use my tablet for that, as I already do that for the various rpgs I play...Maybe program an audio turn counter? I'm sure there is something really great and/or obvious that is right in front of my face, but I'm not seeing it...

Anyway, I think this sort of game really offers a lot of cool opportunities for lighting or other fun effects, bound only by our imagination (and budget...and time...)!

Thanks for the responses. @Cheek great ideas about the terrain. I didn't even consider that as an option for things. And being stationary should actually make it easier to do. As for thoughts about a RaspberryPi usage, I've never been a huge fan of the speakers in ships to provide audio for shooting and getting hit. As you said, it's pretty much the same thing as doing it from your tablet, but a lot more work, and if you're constantly doing it, it gets annoying. I'm not overly familiar with the Pi, but I'm assuming that there's some sort of connectivity like Audino's provide. With that said, a quick brainstorming session uncovered two thoughts - first, you could use it to control fires to some degree. If you setup the lighting in stages, after a few shots at a barrel or something, you can have it start glowing, and then you can tell it to go into full on flames. Second, and this would require some sort of servos, but you could setup doors to open/close. Actually, we can extend that to knocking down crates and other stuff as well, creating dynamic scenery. That said, the more dynamic you make it all, the more stationary it may all become.

Herm, so I hear that Legion is 1/48 scale. That's exciting since there's already quite a few models in that scale if you wanted to add them to your army or use them as terrain (or debris if you wanted to destroy them). Such examples include:

AT-ST http://bandai-hobby.net/sw/en_asia/products/atst.html
T-47 Snowspeeder http://bandai-hobby.net/sw/en_asia/products/snowspeeder.html
X Wing https://www.amazon.com/X-wing-starfighter-moving-scale-plastic/dp/B00T41F0U6
A Wing http://starwarsmodels.com/awing.html
B Wing http://starwarsmodels.com/bwings.html
Y Wing http://starwarsmodels.com/ywingsmt.html
Z-95 http://starwarsmodels.com/z95.html

Now some of those above examples are really old, but I can definitely seem someone taking one of those $20 X Wings and making a crash scene out of it.
