Release Events??

By Mikael79, in Star Wars: Armada Organized Play

Who else would enjoy seeing another Armada Release Event like the Massing at Sullust back in 2015? I'm surprised they don't do that more often. In generates buzz and excites players.

I wasn't around for the massing at sullust so I'd love to see them do something like that again

Considering the whole point of amassing was compensating for a horrendous stuff-up... I am less enthused.

Same as the Fleet Commander competition they held... primarily to apologize for screwups.

Id rather they hit their targets for release instead.

Indeed, hitting release dates would be great. That said, having a small quantity of the new ships sent over early to hold another release event a month or so before the scheduled release date would be a great gimmick for new and old players.

In general I would love more events period. I apparently live in not only an Armada Black Hole but a FLGS black hole as well. I play with friends fairly regularly. We have one store that has a store championship for Armada but little else in support of the game. We generally have to drive an hour or more to find tournament's and even then quarterlies are extremely difficult to find. One of the main issues is Magic and other games are so much more profitable and Armada takes up so much space stores are reluctant to host events and a regular basis. I would love it if FFG would incentivize stores to host more events. I know it's by far my favorite game and I'm sure I could encourage others to try it out if given an opportunity.

Do it on economics. Show you can make money right away on it.

a tournament kit -quarterly- costs $25.

you now have an opportunity to sell 1 or 2 tournaments that make that back and more.

Even a 2 round fleet patrol of 8 people or less gives out half of the prizes, and at 5$ a head, can pay for the kit, leaving you to run a second of pure profit.

Especially if you are running it, they just need to okay a 5 hour block where their store is manned but quiet.

I remember Sullust events should have all taken place on the same weekend. One FLGS I know got into a bit of hot water for not doing it in the required time period. The result was that attendances were low and evenly spread out as people only chose to attend one event, unlike Store championships for example where they are spread over a few months.

The Sullust event I attended had 2 players only so they didn't make a profit there.

Our FLGS is quite happy to run quarterly events as the kit costs are low, much lower than the Store Championship kits. more release events would be interesting but stores may not like them if they have to be concentrated on one weekend.

Given the length of time taken for developing the current wave, Chimaera and Profundity, wouldn't this be a great opportunity to do a massing at Sullust event?

I don’t think so.

i mean, we covered with dates previously, it feels long, but it’s still not s handle to the previous delays.

Also, Sullust was achieved by air freighting product in advance, and at last years public forum, FFG stated because of the screwup they had airfreighting the advance of the first release of destiny, they were not going to use that avenue again.

Massing at Sullust is what killed my Armada Community in my area.

Not because of anything FFG did. Oh no, the community all got angry when people won the ships and they didn't win anything. So table flips and walk outs and here I am the only player in 100 miles now...
