Modified Bids

By Blackbird888, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So, according to the rules reference:

Quote

If the value of an honor bid is modified, resolve that bid as if
the modified value is that player’s bid. The value of a bid may
exceed five (the highest number on the honor dial), or may be
reduced to zero.

Just so I'm clear, if both players bid 2, and an effect activates like Bayushi Manipulator, then one player now counts as 3, and 1 honor is given to the other player?

You are correct. The reaction occurs in a specia reaction window after the honor dials are revealed, modifying the dial value and changing the transfer of honor.

Note, this does not actually affect the number chosen, just the result. So if you both choose 3, and the Bayushi Manipulator bumps it up one, you are still considered tied for the purposes of I Can Swim since both of your dials say "3".

Hello, one question related to modified bid.

It is related to Good Omen card, text in the card is this one:

"Play only if your honor bid is lowed than an oponent's.

Action: Choose a character with printer cost 3 or higher - place 1 fate on that character"

The question is, that this text is not related to the Dial value (which isn't modified even if you have used a card to modify the Honor Bid), so for this card, you have to check the Dial Value, or dial value plus the honor bid modification you played in the Bid phase?

Thanks in advance.

Hijacking this for another question, relating to attachments. When Fiery Madness came up, we tried to figure how it works, and the only thing I could find was that it doesn't specify it has to be your own character you can play attachments on. Is that accurate?

Fiery Madness can be played on your opponent's characters (similarly, Cloud the Mind fits in this category).

Quinto, if someone else doesn't answer that sooner, I'll find a rules reference in the next 24 hours. Or, let you know there isn't one.

sry for double post, but didn't enable notifications for replies on this thread the first time

Displayed/Printed value. Under Honor (page 8)

"If a card ability references a player’s honor bid, the ability is referencing the current setting on the player’s honor dial."

I think it could be a little bit more clear in the rules, but I think the intention is something like Contingency Plan or Bayushi Manipulator only adjust the value for the rest of the current step you are on, and not permanently.

That is the ruling. Anything that modifies but doesn't change the value, only does it for the effect and you do not adjust your dial.

Rules Reference, page 3:

  • Bid Value
    • If the value of an honor bid is modified, resolve that bid as if the modified value is that player’s bid. The value of a bid may exceed five (the highest number on the honor dial), or may be reduced to zero.
      • When the value of an honor bid is modified, the setting on the dial is not itself adjusted.

Related, watching a Team Covenant video, I remember them using the dials for a duel and then setting them back to their start of round honor bid values. This was incorrect. This use is considered an honor bid and becomes your new value. You can also use your tricks (with an applicable reaction) to modify those value, but it won't change their physically revealed value. You can use dueling to get those other cards (like Good Omen) in play, and you can surprise your opponent with Contingency Plan.

Rules Reference, page 23:

  • D. Duel Timing
    • ...
    • D.4. Reveal honor dials
      • The players simultaneously reveal their bids. Once a player reveals an honor bid, the dial is placed next to the player’s stronghold and remains as a reference point until the next honor bid occurs.
