Playing Attachments with No Impact on Game

By LuceLineGames, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Just as an FYI, I haven't seen this asked before, but I wasn't sure myself so I got a response through the FFG channel. The 'game state must change' rule applies to triggered abilities, and does not apply to attachments. For example, an attachment with +2 political can be played on a "-" dash political character.

Per Nate French:

The “change in game state” rule applies to triggering abilities — this won’t prevent the playing of an attachment.

You can play the attachment on any legal card it can be attached to, even if it does not modify the character.

Playing an attachment would of course change the game state. That character now has an attachment.

Yes, that's what I thought as well, but it is irrelevant as there is no such requirement. The original question was if you can play an attachment on a dash character that only attempts to modify the dash. I found it helpful to find out I only need to worry about the eligibility requirements as printed on the attachment.

I think they've done a good job of not needing to know more than a few "core rules" and that the cards are relatively self-explanatory.

(As Compared to all of the mess of keywords from the CCG)

Agreed. I'm finding that the only reason I need to refer to the rulebook as I learn the game is to get the phases correct and to make sure we're not missing any activation windows. The only card we've been confused about was Height of Fashion and that was really a question of us having missed the start of conflict phases activation window.
